Regarding the Annunciation: Was Mary chosen or did she choose? How could a child make a decision of this magnatude?
Both. God raised Mary up to be absolutely virtuous, holy, kind and loving and made Her completely immaculate just so that She would be the ideal Mother of God and for all men. However, He needed Her consent for this and She could refuse or accept without sinning at all. He didn’t force Her and the fact that She asked God about how this could be if She knew not man shows that She’d have refused if it meant abandoning God.

Also, Mary, considering She was a teenager at that time, could make such a decision because She had intelligence far exceeding that of any normal human; She was very, very prayerful and by Her prayers and meditations and the graces and visions God gave Her, She had more knowledge of God and theology than even the doctors of the Church will ever have. Together with Her prudence and morals She was prepared to become the Mother of all men and God.
How old were Mary and Joseph when they were wed?
Depends. Joseph must have been a younger man than the ninety year old some paintings depict him. Mary was probably a teenager. But, seeing as Joseph is I don’t know, Saint Joseph, not only would he not marry a young girl in order to harm her but, even if Mary was of am appropriate age to marry, Joseph would never marry anyone agaisnt their own will. He was chosen by God to be the Spouse of Mary just so that he’d protect Her from the insults of others and to take care of Her; the same with Mary.
In view of the fact that Mary was present at Pentecost; Why didn’t we hear more from her after the crucifiction of Jesus? Why didn’t we hear more from her before Pentecost?
Who said we didn’t hear more from Her? The thing is, the writings of John Damascene, Ephrem of Syria and many other early century saints reveal that Mary was venerated a lot even at those times. Because the Apostles didn’t talk about Her in the Bible doesn’t mean that She didn’t have influence on them or the early Church. Who took care of all the converts?

Isn’t it unhealthy for all these people to be drinking from the same cup; why do we continue to receive the Body AND Blood of Jesus. Isn’t the reception of the Blood a redundency if you have just received the Body AND Blood of Jesus in the Host?

I’m tired of being bushwhacked by non believers so I guess I’d better ask…

  1. Both. God chose her before the world began, but at the same time Mary gave her consent. Because she is free from Original Sin and always had sanctifying grace in her soul.
St. Mary was young, St. Joseph was old.

Everything is about JESUS. The apostles are mentioned more because they were the people doing all of the main stuff. (It’s kind of like asking why didn’t we hear more from Mother Theresa and not the bishops? Because the bishops exercise the magisterium and Mother Theresa didn’t. Keep in mind many books in the New Testament were used for catechist, and maybe mentioning the apostles more showed their authority.)

I love God too much to be worrying about that. I would be overjoyed to receive the Eucharist now, even if that involved getting the flu or something. How is it? Jesus instituted the Mass consecrating the bread AND wine.
