The Blessed Virgin said women shouldn't wear pants?

bobzills;2681804:
This is what is being talking about. The fact that pants are men’s apparel in the western hemisphere and in Europe in this day and age.
But pants are also women’s apparel in the western hemisphere. (and other places)
Something similar to a skirt is men’s apparel in the western hemisphere at least according to the Scots and Greeks (although Greece most of Europe and the middle east aren’t in the western hemisphere)
bobzills;2681804:
And the fact that the Bible says that for women to wear men’s apparel is an abomination.
So what exactly was the difference, for example, between the robes St Joseph wore and those that Mary did?

The traditional paintings and sculptures (which were obviously affected by later fashions) show them to be superficially similar

I’m not sure where you’re living or what company you keep, but I couldn’t disagree with you more. Can you please prove that women have to be men in order to be respected? This certainly hasn’t been my experience in my church, my family, my job, or my community.

Also, how do you define “man’s world” and how should women keep from entering into it? Are there certain things men are allowed to do that women are not? For example, the bishop mentioned skiing and home repair, among others. Do you feel that these are men only activities? A woman should not paint walls in her home or mow the lawn, because this can be construed as “home repair,” therefore men’s work?
Actually,I was referring to the respect of the world. Does the *world *value a woman who chooses to stay at home and raise children, take care of her husband? No, it doesn’t. Does the *world *support a woman who doesn’t pursue a career? No, it doesn’t. Does the *world *respect the woman who covers her head for Mass? No. Does the *world *respect the woman who doesn’t believe in that women should be priests? No. Does the *world *respect the modest woman? No. The *world *doesn’t respect women who choose to stay women, mentally and spiritually. **Necessity **overrides every law, but the exception has become the rule in many regards, this topic being only one. And it is this is why I and the others (I assume, in a large part anyway) oppose it.

Since when do Catholics worry about having the respect of the world? This still doesn’t answer my question–what are some concrete examples that wearing pants is anti-woman?

What are examples of “men’s work” that women now do because they wear pants? What shouldn’t we be allowed to do as women?

It makes the “man’s world” more available to women. This mentality as wrong as it suggests that a woman is nothing unless she does what a man does. There’s no pride these days in being a woman, a feminine woman. A woman these days, to get any respect in the eyes of the world, has to be very manly.
Wow, are you an ultra feminist for life? Seriously, the best way to gain respect as a woman (or man) is to be truly Christlike and also not take yourself too seriously. As a woman who has dressed in too many varieties of fashion in my short 29 years, I can say for certain that no matter what my attire, my attitude and personality is what caused others to either treat me with respect or to treat me without respect. I have dressed like a hoochie in the past and have been treated with respect when I commanded it with how I treated others. When I was a jerk, I could have dressed completely modestly (body covered from neck to toe with a dress, close toed shoes, etc.) and still been disrespected because of the garbage that came out of my mouth. I’m not endorsing dressing immodestly, I’m just pointing out that as a woman how you treat others determines the level of respect you’ll receive from anyone moreso than whether you wear pants, shorts, skorts, skirt, capris, dresses with cut off leggings underneath, etc.

I think you should substitute “the world” with “women” in your statements. I know men who desire for their wives (or future wives) to stay home and raise the children, to have her ultimate goal be having and raising a family, not a career.

My mother wore pants and I love men? You, though…from what you say it seems like the better phrase would be: I obviously **lust **after girls. I’m basing this on your comment (among others) on your post regarding Rosie and Nicole.
I think most reasonable people would agree that Roise O’Donell in a bikini is a sight to horrific to comprehend. The only woman i lust after is my wife-who BTW looks really nice in a pair of pants. Perhaps you would prefer women dress like this:

That’s nice. Many people like to argue fact. Anyway, what does this post prove? Many women, and men (gentlemen) disagree with you and your family.
yeah-the number of people who think women should not wear pants is just ENORMOUS not.

Seriously, pants are a better option than the short skirts and shorts women and girls wear these day. I really don’t think there is a problem with pants as long as they are not tight, or have a low and revealing waist to them.

I think the important thing is, that whatever men or women wear, they should dress modestly and appropriately for where they are going.

I see that no one has attempted to dissect the philosophical conundrum of “skorts.” Please someone help. What can be done? Are they pants or are they skirts? Are they moral or are they immoral?

It would appear to me that they would end up with 1 foot in hell and 1 foot in heaven. On the average they would feel fine

Note for Latinmasslover: this was a joke

Are they skirts or are they shorts? Even the fashion industry can’t dissect this conundrum!🙂

okay, but what about “pilazzo” pant.? (Long flowing pants that are very full at the bottom like a skirt)?

Both feet in hell or heaven?

What about the M. C. Hammer pants that men use to wear in the late 80s/early 90s? They looked more like skirts than pants.😛

I"m worried about how young the females must be before this interdict is put on. I (am most ashamed to confess) dressed my little daughters in all manner of pants and leggings when they were infants and young children. I suppose I have been guilty of pushing them into hell and making them unfeminine and manly and not worthy of respect. (But don’t tell their male friends that. They still think my daughters are pretty feminine. No one has ever asked me my “sons” names. So I guess it didn’t turn them into men.)

otjm,

They’ve got you. Give up! It’s the old “infallible bathroom signs” argument!

hey Latinmasslover…Mary wore black (not white and blue) as was the jewish custom of the time should women today also only wear black?
Only for burkahs…

Again, it’s the mentality behind the pants. The mentality, more specifically, the anti-woman “feminist” mentality, more so than the actual wearing of the pants.
Please provide your survey substantiating such a claim.

The only mentality I have heard from women is that a) pants tend to be more comfortable, particularly in cold weather; b) pants look better; c) they look more professional (oh, right, there’s the sin; they are not at home tending the family) and/or d) they are safer.

Not all women surveyed agreed with all mentalities.

Give it up? And let such silliness replace common sense and a true understanding of morality?

But you are right; that is about as close to an infallible statement as we will see herein…
