When did they (Homo Sapien) arrive? About 200,000 years ago.
If i read a literal account of the bloodline, leading from Adam to Jesus, then from Jesus to us right now, the time frame demands something around the number of 10, 000 years according to a fundementalist prodestant veiw. Obviously this can’t be correct considering that evolution has us coming in to reality around about 200, 000 years ago.

Do you understand my point?

If so, how is one suppose to understand the bloodline in light of this fact, assuming that their is a reasonable answer that does not contradict are faith.
Peace and God bless.

Id think that theistic evolution is a reasonable position, but i must understand the contradictions it represents.

If you are going to accept theistic evolution, you need to accept the notion that the bloodline in the Bible that links Adam to Abraham, is not one that is meant to be taken as historical. In other words, it is meant to show that there is a link between Adam and Abraham, but it was not meant to give a literal listing of all of Abraham’s forebears.

Does this mean that some characters or time frames or familly links were just made up to provide a connection between Adam and Abraham? Im not entirely sure what you mean.

Is the tale of Noars ark for instance, just a “fictional story” designed only to express a moral truth? Something like a metaphore or a simerli? Is this where you are going?

From glancing at the Catholic Encyclopedia, the Church doesn’t rule out a local flood being the one Noah described. Essentially it’s a question still open to interpretation and inquiry, and the Church has no firm teaching about it. From what I gather, the modern consideration is that there was a major flood of some kind in Noah’s area.

One interpretation I have heard advanced for the lineage to Adam is that the names given aren’t specific people, but families/groups. But, I’m out of my depth here. It’s times like this I wish they’d update the Catholic Encyclopedia. 🙂

The “family tree” in Scripture is simply showing the relationship between the end points, not as a complete historical account.
My great, great, great, grandfathers name was “Charles”, rather than including the four generations between he and I; I could truly say that I was “begotten” of Charles. It is a true statement in the context of showing the family relationship but not an accurate and complete history of all the intermediate “fathers and sons” in the line.
Scripture is the history of a relationship between God and man. It isn’t intended to be understood as a complete history of man, just of his relationship to God. As such it is not necessary for Scripture to show each and every generation, but simply to show the family relationship, which of course, it does. Even science has shown a common DNA link to an original woman, or “Eve”. Quite a feat for a species 200,000 years old.

Freesoulhope,
Your use of the terms “made up” and “Just a fictional story” tell me you’re having trouble understanding the different literary forms used in Scripture.
You might be interested in an online course in Scripture study. Try amm.org/chss.htm
The course is “A Catholic Guide to the Bible”. Quite informative, and it really puts Scripture into perspective. They send you a guide book and workbook, you do the reading and answer questions on line.

In my** personal** opinion, while the first humans are beleived to having evolved 200,000 years ago, what I find interesting is that, civilization is only 10,000 years old, fitting the biblical time frame. If we assume the bible’s time line is between the " fall of Adam and Eve"to now, leaving the time frame prior to this unknown, and adding an hypothesis that humans existed before Cain and Able (but not before Adam and Eve), then, we could claim, hypothetically speaking, that Adam and Eve might have been responsible for the begetting of civilization. The beginning of civilization was actually the emergence of agriculture, and Adam and Eve were said to be taking care of the garden in Eden.

My conclusion to a previous thread exactly. Thank God for common-sense. Adam and Eve logically then were not the first man and woman since we would all possess profound and complex learning disabilities, rather, the first civilisation of humanity;)
