the book I got in the mail "National Sunday Law"

Hi all, Have enjoyed seeing some familiar names here!

I have a question.

Has anyone else received the book, “National Sunday Law” in the mail recently? Apparently it was circulated (at least) in the diocese of Arlington in 1999 by the author, an apparently independently wealthy http://www.worldnetdaily.com/images/story/Marcussen.jpgSDA pastor of a church in Thompsonville, IL. The book is available to read for free on the web on the main Seven Day Adventist website although when asked about it by “World News” in 2001, they disavowed any connection to it or the pastor/writer Jan Marcussen whom they described as “an extremist” and “not representing SDA doctrine”.

The copy I received in the mail on Jan 18th sent to my home, not to me (“resident” at my address) appears to be a reprint by a group called "New Life Missions, RR1 Box 37, Okeene, OK, 73763. But although a search of the web found several “new life missions” (all seemingly being involved in “feeding the children” type thing), there was nothing listed in Okeene, OK.

The book on the surface is advocating worshipping on Saturday instead of Sunday, one of the things the SDA church teaches but most of the book I read was just pure anti Catholicism. A book review from “Christianbookreviews.com” stated that about this book:

Attaining a level of historical ignorance and logical absurdity reached in the past only by Jack Chick, Marcussen weaves a fabric of factual errors, paranoia, and anti-Catholic bigotry that is as fascinating as it is appalling.<<<<

World News did a write up on it in 2001 but I saw nothing newer than 2005 on Christianbookreviews - my question is, how broad an area is this group targeting? and naturally, I suspect that abortion money may be, at least, in part, funding it - because it costs a lot of bucks to reprint a book and mail it out to perhaps thousands of people. Would anyone who has received this book in the mail recently or knows anything about this book, or who is circulating it, please respond either to me personally, or to this forum?

I received the same book in the mail today, which lead me to search the Catholic Answers forums so I could find out who wrote it.

After recognizing it for what it was, I put it aside to read later.

(And now that you mention it: I am disappointed that it was sent to “RESIDENT” at my address – It would have been so much cooler if I had been singled out as big-shot-famous-Catholic-apologist [user]tee_eff_em[/user] )

I am not sure how much money it takes to produce a cheaply made paperback book, or the cost of mailing it if sent bookrate. However certainly the cost would add up if sent by the hundreds. But why do you think abortion funding is involved? Okeene is a small town in rural Oklahoma, not exactly abortion central.

Anyhow, a Google search for the terms:

“New Life” Okeene

will turn up an old Angelfire website which lists the name of a contact person for New Life Mission in Okeene, OK. I’m not sure if the email address is still good, however a phone number is listed and a reverse lookup of that number suggests it is still in service. It seems to be to the home of a retired couple (the contact person and presumably her husband.) So we may be dealing with a low budget operation, from a couple using their life’s savings.
