Is anyone familiar with the Book of Enoch? I just started reading it. So far its very interesting. And from what I’ve read on other forums, it is considered pseudepigrapha. I noticed a similarity in Enoch 10:6 with Tobit 8:3 (both regarding Raphael) and there is the obvious quote in Jude 5:14. I think I read that parts of it were also found in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Is it suggested that this book holds no truth or validity according to the CC? I know the EOC includes Enoch in its scripture… 🤷

It’s not authoritatively reliable text. Enoch is quoted by an apostle at one point, but then again the apostles also quote proverbs from Greek pagan traditions in order to demonstrate a point or convey a message.

Doesn’t mean that it has “no truth or validity” anymore than any other work of literature, but it is not trustworthy as an inerrant piece of text in the way that canonical scripture or magisterial statements would be.

Okay, so then if its not trustworthy as an inerrant piece, then can it be left open to be thought of as an historical account of private revelation of Enoch, or is it thought to just be pure fantasy?

It’s not canonical scripture so we’re not sure.

There can be plenty of great lessons learned from other texts in the way one might learn all sorts of things from all sorts of different texts, religious or otherwise, but it didn’t pass the test to be added to scripture so you just should not treat it as absolutely authoritative, and of course if any parts of it stand in conflict to orthodox teaching in anyway, then on that particular point, it is wrong.

Im being cautious as I read it - because there are some things in the book that are pretty cool. Chapter 46 seems to be a prophecy of Christ - a private revelation to Enoch with an angel describing who this person is and will be. I understand the Church doesn’t recognize it as completely inerrant, but at the same time there seem to be some inerrant such as this particular prophecy… 🤷

Also, does anyone know specifically why The Church does not recognize this book as inerrant or as to why its not considered canonical scripture? Are there any specific reasons the Church made this decision on the book???

^^I thought I read somewhere that it’s authorship wasn’t certain but don’t quote me on that.

But there is also uncertainty of authorship in canonical scripture as well.

I think there are actually 4 or 5 books called the books of Enoch. We just don’t know who really wrote them. But once you read even some of them, it seems obvious the apostles knew what was in them, as did the early church fathers.

I didn’t read all of them yet. I also heard a manuscript of Enoch was either amongst the Dead Sea Scrolls, or amongst some manuscripts more recently found in an excavation site in Israel. You said one prophesy implied the coming of Jesus. I don’t know that one. But that would be something the ancient Jews wouldn’t have wanted preserved.

Since I read so slowly these days, I’ve found You-Tube videos where I can listen to them being read. One reason I want to know what they say is because they seem to fill in gaps between scripture and science. But they also raise questions. However, the questions they raise seem to me to have answers that may soon become apparent.

I’m 60 years old and since I was a kid I was told there are other dimensions, or other realities, and that this is where God and Heaven are. I’ve waited 60 years for hard core proof of this, and there isn’t any. Just theories. However, it seems more likely the cosmos is endless. Ancient man considered the cosmos the Heavens. I think he was right. I also think what we call the laws of physics are not the same throughout the cosmos. But that doesn’t matter.

What does matter is that perhaps even angels need machines to come to Earth. This idea has been used to say God isn’t God at all. But I firmly believe God is God, and Jesus is His only begotten Son.

One problem is in the book of Ezekiel. The angels who came to talk to Ezekiel arrived in something that sounds like a machine. So skeptics use this to say angels are just other mortal beings. But I say no. I don’t buy that.

The books of Enoch say the fallen angels came to Earth, mated with human women, and created a race of giants called the Nephilim, in Genesis. But Jesus once said there is no marriage in Heaven, and that we’ll be like the angels. So Jesus implied angels either don’t or can’t, have sexual relations. This is the big reason the books of Enoch are considered false. But suppose when immortal beings, the angels, come to Earth, they are then capable of having sexual relations. Or perhaps when Lucifer and his cohorts were thrown out of Heaven, they became like us, and were capable of sexual relations? I think one of those statements are true. Either way, the stories in the books of Enoch answer many questions skeptics use to deny God is real.

I’ve also been trying to learn about the messages Holy Mary has been bringing to Earth. One of them talks about 3 days of darkness, and when the Sun comes back there will be aliens here who take credit for it. They will even claim to be God, or gods. But they will be the antichrist.

I think sooner rather than later beings from space will land openly. Many people will accept them as benevolent aliens. Especially all the New Age people will accept them. But will they be mortal or immortal? I think they will pull a trick where it seems like 1 of them dies. That’s how they will trick the world into accepting them. But if they don’t do this, and tell us they’re immortal, then all of us who know God should know they’re the fallen angels. And I think this will happen soon.

Sorry this is so long.

John
