“bigpond” ? How very appropriate 🙂

I do not know how to write what I am going to try to write.

St. Augustine seems to say that the creation account is from heaven’s side, at least the first three days.

Well, I do not know where to go next, but if I have understood St. Augustine, the day is an heavenly day.

There is also the idea that many people have that the Jews took this story from other religions, and thus is invalid.

I think the idea behind our faith is that these stories were brought to life through the Lord’s selection of the chosen people, and thus their versions were authoritative, not scientifically, but theologically and religiously.

They presented, if at least symbolically, God’s intentions and plan, rather than the world’s facts.

Is this heretical?

God bless,
Aaron

St. Augustine says, I think, that the day described is a heavenly day. This is a change in perspective; at least in the way we normally view this account. The day describes the creation of light or day in heaven. St. Augustine says that “let there be light” is the creation of angelic beings. The day is a day in heaven.

The literal interpretation is concerned with a day in heaven. It is not describing a day on earth. The literal interpretation is concerned with angelic beings and not the physical sun here on earth.

Also, the tree of life is God. St. Bonaventure wrote a book entitle the tree of life. If I have understood him, Jesus is the tree of life. Also, Benedict XVI’s book the Spirit of the Liturgy shows Jesus on the cross and behind Him is the tree of life.

Also, if I have understood St. Ambrose, the tree of knowledge of good and evil is our conscience.

I just started to read the bible again, I thought I’d start at the beginning (Genesis). Genesis 8, ok Noah and the family build an ark and take animals, birds, etc. since the ark had windows in it how did they keep flies inside?, wouldn’t the roof of the ark be absolutly covered with birds since they would drowned otherwise? How did they gather up all these animals, especially insects - do you know how many of them there are? If God was starting all over how did he “kill” the sea creatures since they were already in the water?
A great book on all questions relating to Genesis is by Hugh Ross and is called the “Genesis Question” He has a great analysis of the Creation and the Flood. He has a literal interpretation and by analysing the original language and various scientificaa evidence demonstrates why modern science is not incompatible with a literal interpretation of Scripture. Enjoy!

Literal is not equal to physical.

Genesis one, two and three might be literally telling us what “was” happening in the “mind” of God.

The literal might be telling us what was happening in heaven.

What do you think?
