Baptism is a sacrament, and like all sacraments it has to be performed by one having real authority from God. As Paul said, “no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron” (Hebrews 5:4). Jesus didn’t go to just anybody to be baptized, but to John, who had proper authority from God (see Matthew 12:25). And so must be everyone else who is baptized into the kingdom of God. Earthly kingdoms have legal administers; what makes you think the kingdom of God should be any different?

That’s an insult to all of Christendom. And you wonder why you are not well received.

How interesting, though, that you consider it to be an insult and are upset. Perhaps you can understand, then, why Mormons don’t particularly appreciate it when folks like you not only declare us to be not Christian, but insist that we agree with you about that.

You will note that Joseph was talking about these teachers lacking authority–but not telling them that they were not Christian.

…and anyway (sorry to but in - by the way hello to you dianaiad! ) most priest and other ministers aren’t even fully christian but rather they just put up with their job… It’s sad but true. Thank fully my priest is a lovely guy and he is a serious christian!

I have noticed this interchange, and thought it would be important to point out (in case you aren’t aware) that one needs to have shown themselves “worthy” to be baptized by having “repented” as the New Testament talks about, and by being willing to make gospel covenants that mean the person is sincerely taking upon themselves Christ’s name and is willing to always try and strengthen others in living gospel teachings such as faith and love and sincere prayer. Then, one receives the gift of the Holy Ghost which becomes a big help in life.

So, I ask Forum Members from all denominations, do you believe these beliefs of Joseph Smith’s are consistent with Christianity or are his words an insult to Christendom?

Hey, Parker D you’re hooking me here, finally you are starting to make sense to me now! How do I come to show my self “worthy”? I want to be closer to christ and my father but the catholic faith just confuses me! How do I recieve the spirit above how I already have!?

What does joseph smith have to offer for me? I want to be closer to christ will for me ultimately. Please tell me what I’m missing.

ParkerD was bearing his testimony. Mormons usually end such a profession with a “in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen”. They say this so often, that it becomes habitual and gets all squished together like it is one word.

ParkerD is in missionary mode. Mormon missionaries call people who know little to nothing about Mormonism, and who ask questions “golden contacts”. IE, easy targets for conversion. It’s even better if you have had recent life turmoil, or emotionally hard times that you are still working through.

No dianaiad, my friend Lydia promised me that she has spoken to her bishop and I can get into the temple at the first time I go! The bishop is her father - inlaw! She is a missionary there and has been since 1974 when she was 14 years old! Yay me!
