Does anyone know if there is a Catholic equivalent? in video form that is

There’s even a Mormon Myths made simple video too. On polygamy they again don’t tell the truth.

Too true. As long as section 132 is still canonized in the Doctrine and Covenants, the LDS still practice polygamy, even if it is only in the “after-life.” Why won’t these folks just tell the truth?

Moreover they commit the usual LDS double standard in oversimplifying the “Are Mormons Christian?” question while at the same time asserting that LDS splinter groups are “not Mormons.” A member of any of those groups could respond to that claim in exactly the same way: “But we believe in the ‘Book of Mormon,’ and we baptize by authority as Alma did in the waters of Mormon, and we follow a leader who is a prophet like Mormon!” Apparently negative value judgments against Mormonism by non-Mormons are seen as “myths,” while similar value judgments by orthodox Mormons are clarifications of a misunderstanding.

I’m still sitting here giggling.

They tried to subtly show the MesoAmerican theory…BUZZZZZ…Wrong!

They tried to do the ancestor to Native American thing…BUZZZZ…Wrong!!

Actually, I liked it on those very points: they explicitly placed Cumorah in upstate New York, even though they still represented a general Mesoamerican setting. Also, they kept to the wording of “principal ancestors” of the native Americans, and portrayed a Lamanite dressed like one of the Iroquois. I actually like the honesty of that kind of portrayal over and against the more extreme forms of LGT or attempts to locate native Americans, distinct from the descendants of Lehi as present within the BOM. I have far more respect for this video than for those kinds of theories.

I noticed on a lot of pro LDS youtube videos the comments section have been turned off.

This Youtube cartoon video also attempts to present the Mormon belief in a simplified form.

Do Mormons believe that Joseph will be ‘one’ of the judges on judgement day? Do they really believe that Jesus had children with three different women?

How accurate would you say is this video presentation?

True, but the mesoamerican theory, we know is wrong.

Also, didn’t recent DNA prove their was no connection with native americans in the way the lds try to portray?

We already have all sorts of views on Cumorah, as demonstrated by another thread…😛

I think LDS have blasted that cartoon. But from what I’ve seen it seems to be 100% accurate. The only problem is that it is very blunt, using words like “sx" when describing God having "sx” with Mary. It would be interesting to break down the cartoon scene by scene and see if it’s all accurate. It looks to me to be very accurate.

The drawing is actually pretty cute. 😊

But I still find the premise as contradicting Holy Scripture.

This cartoon is sooooooo dishonest. It portrays a limited geography theory with both the Nephite and Lamanite civilizations limited to a small section of Central America. Then, hilariously, it portrays Moroni walking all the way from Central America to upstate New York to bury the plates. That’s about 4200 miles!

The Book of Mormon clearly teaches that the descendants of Lehi filled all of North and South America. The LDS prophets and apostles have always taught that the one and only Hill Cumorah is the one in upstate New York where Joseph claimed to have found the gold plates. They have always taught (and still teach) that the final battle was fought in upstate New York, not Central America.

This video is doing what so many LDS on this forum have done - they have denied the consistent teachings of their prophets and apostles. They have created theories that do great violence to the text of the “most correct book of any on the earth” in order to distance themselves from the embarrassingly stupid and indefensable LDS teachings of the last 180 years.

Whether any particular Mormon believes this or not may vary. But Brigham Young (2nd Mormon Prophet) taught that no one will get into Heaven without the approval of Joseph Smith. And Joseph F. Smith (6th Mormon Prophet) taught that no one can make it to the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom unless they have a minimum of 3 wives at the same time in this life - and it is a common teaching that Jesus had to “earn” his salvation, just like any other man.

Soren, I have to admit that you are correct. Those Mormons who DO this are indeed guilty of the very thing you claim they are.

However, please do not present this as if all Mormons do this, or that it is officially done by the church…because, if you have read my stuff at all, you will know that I have brought this up several times myself. We cannot, as Mormons, claim to be Christians and then use the same argument YOU guys use to deny us that title in order to deny those Mormons who are not LDS the title "Mormon.’

I never have.

Haven’t seen it…can’t, from this computer. However, if it REALLY says that we believe that god had sex with Mary, and that Jesus had children by three different women, then no, I wouldn’t call it accurate, precisely.

I’d call it a lot of OTHER things, but 'accurate?" Not really.

Here we go again! Sounds like you are really agreeing because you use “precisely.”
Debates over - LDS used to teach this and according to those here who spent a lot of time
in the church, longer than I, they taught this in the church. And I have evidence members
still believe this. The cartoon has this right.

I finally got to see this.

Lesseee…what is accurate about this video?

They called Kolob a star.

and…

and…

and…

wait. “starbase Kolob?”

never mind.

the accuracy level of this video is…zip

I had a special giggle over Jesus’ three wives. The battle scene was a little over the top–something about the Roman uniforms…and the scene of the couple looking at gravestones by flashlight was downright inspired. 😉

Loved the creaky door at the end.

So…does this video accurately portray “What Mormons Really Believe?”

Not precisely. Not even remotely precisely. As in…dang. The only thing it got right was the JS quote at the end (out of context, of course, but he DID say that) and the fact that Kolob is a star.

I guess I have to give it credit for something. Funny!

The Mormon Jesus was a polygamist.

This is but a tiny sample of the documentation, in roughly chronological order.
  1. Jesus was a polygamist, married to Mary Magdalene, Mary and Martha the sisters of Lazarus, and perhaps others. Also, Jesus had children.
“I discover that some of the Eastern papers represent me as a great blasphemer, because I said, in my lecture on Marriage, at our last Conference, that Jesus Christ was married at Cana of Galilee, that Mary, Martha, and others were his wives, and that he begat children.”
(President Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v2, p210)

“It will be borne in mind that once on a time, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and on a careful reading of that transaction, it will be discovered that no less a person than Jesus Christ was married on that occasion. If he was never married, his intimacy with Mary and Martha [the sisters of Lazarus] and the other Mary also whom Jesus loved [Mary Magdelene], must have been highly unbecoming and improper to say the best of it.”
(Apostle Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses 4:259)

One thing is certain, that there were several holy women that greatly loved Jesus - such as Mary, and Martha her sister, and Mary Magdalene; and Jesus greatly loved them, and associated with them much; and when He arose from the dead, instead of first showing Himself to His chosen witnesses, the Apostles, He appeared first to these women, or at least to one of them - namely, Mary Magdalene. Now, it would be very natural for a husband in the resurrection to appear first to his own dear wives, and afterwards show himself to his other friends. If all the acts of Jesus were written, we no doubt should learn that these beloved women were his wives. (Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 159)

“We say it was Jesus Christ who was married, to be brought into the relation whereby he could see his seed, before He was crucified. “Has he indeed passed by the nature of angels, and taken upon himself the seed of Abraham, to die without leaving a seed to bear his name on the earth?” No. But when the secret is fully out, the seed of the blessed shall be gathered in, in the last days; and he who has not the blood of Abraham flowing in his veins, who has not one particle of the Saviour’s in him, I am afraid is a stereotyped Gentile, who will be left out and not be gathered in the last days; for I tell you it is the chosen of God, the seed of the blessed, that shall be gathered.”
(Apostle Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses 2:82)
  1. Jesus and the apostles were persecuted and killed for being polygamists.
“The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, causing his crucifixion, was evidently based upon polygamy, according to the testimony of the philosophers who rose in that age. A belief in the doctrine of a plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus and his followers. We might almost think they were Mormons."
    (Prophet Jedediah M. Grant, Journal of Discourses, Vol.1, p.346, August 7, 1853)
  2. Early Mormon leaders were direct descendants of Jesus.
Joseph Smith was the first to reveal this teaching, when he informed the plural wife of Apostle Judge Adams, that the Apostle “was a literal descendant of Jesus Christ.” (Oliver B. Huntington Journal, p. 259)

Prophet Lorenzo Snow, and his counselor George Q. Cannon, later declared this doctrine publicly:

President George Q. Cannon also spoke … he said, "There are those in this audience who are descendants of the old Twelve Apostles - and shall I say it, yes, descendants of the Saviour Himself. His seed is represented in this body of men.
Following Pres. Cannon, President Snow arose and said that what Bro. Cannon had stated respecting the literal descendants among this company of the old apostles and the Saviour himself is true - the Saviour’s seed is represented in this body of men. (Journal of Pres. Rudger Clawson, pp. 374-375)
