What is the book that you would recommend and have someone read when they are at the end of their rope, tired and warn out, a “lost cause”?

(No saying the bible, you may say a BOOK of the bible but not the Bible as it is more a library of books…)

It would depend on WHY this person felt he was at the end of his rope.

There are many reasons why people find their faith in crisis. Some have undergone great personal loss, and feel abandoned by God. Some are intellectuals, and feel that “science” has “disproved” religion. Some people are distressed by the evil in this world and wonder how a benevolent God could allow this to continue. Some contest the historical accuracy of Biblical events. Some are confused by “mysteries” of the Church, such as the Trinity or the Incarnation. Some are confused by the presence of sinners among the clergy (such as the priest abuse scandals).

If anyone could write a book that would address all of these concerns, he would be a Doctor of the Church even greater than St. Thomas Aquinas (called “The Angelic Doctor”). Suffice to say that such a book does not exist.

So more information is necessary in order to provide an adequate answer.

I would advise you or a believer read this book and then pray for your friend in need. Prayers are so much more effective when you have the knowledge of the word of God in your mind.

Releasing Gods Annointing by Mel Bond.

You can get a digital copy for free from

It’s not a Catholic book but everything in it is straight out of the bible with quotes so you can check the wording if you don’t remember that bit.

Thanks for the responses

Thanks for your response as well this was just a question not for a specific person in mind but just peoples recommendations but I do understand it depends on the person situation. I do however note that I find rarely anyone is at the end of their rope because of the logical issues, no doubt it can happen and it can be part of the issue but I find the deeper issues tend to be emotional. This I find interesting as the difference between us in animals tends to be we are emotional; I have never seen a cheetah lamenting the death of a zebra, they are instinct driven and their “emotion” is from that.

How about…

Old Testament Douay Rheims version: The Book of Job…
New Testament Douay Rheims version: The Gospel of John…
The Faith Explained by Trese…
Mental Prayer by Francisco…
Handbook of Prayers by Belmonte/Socias
Exorcism by Jocis

I’ve discovered that reading the Douay Rheims version brings out challenging Old English grammar at it’s best… and it adds that flavor of challenge that introduces a certain kind of fun/enjoyment to the readings… Makes it like hieroglyphics and runes… he he he D&D style… ( It’s so UNLIKE normal modern day english biblical texts where everything just sounds so simple and plain ) .

I’ve also discovered that the following helps A LOT to wake one to His senses…
  1. Read book of Job + John… ( Have a bookmark… Read 2 paragraphs each day… or up to you… JUST DON’T take the whole gulp so immediately. ) 5-10-15 minutes…
  2. Do mental prayer every morning (after you wake), every noon (after lunch), & every night (before you go to bed)…Mental prayer ( must learn the book first)… just talk about anything… talk about your life… talk about your situation… do serious talking to our Lord… build the relationship here… 5-10-15 minutes… When you wake up every morning, offer your joys, your work, your experiences (bad & good) to Jesus.
  3. At night (before you go to bed… based on Handbook of Prayers… ) perform examination of conscience… do serious talking to our Lord… build the relationship here… 5-10-15 minutes… before you shut-eye, add three Hail Mary s… Don’t make promises that you can’t keep to Jesus…
  4. Everyday, if you can do this… Visit the Blessed Sacrament… Just say Hi… talk about anything… 5-10-15 minutes… Also, read The Faith Explained to get those fallen blocks moving…
  5. Just keep on talking and don’t expect replies from God like people-conversions… God’s replies will come in due time…
  6. Lastly, that last bit of strength you have, just don’t let it go to waste… use it for 1 through 5 above.
  7. Terribly lost cases may go for Father Jocis’ book… Exorcism. We believe that God created all things visible and invisible. Actually, I recommend this book so that you may understand that if you stray from Jesus’s love, the wolves will be upon you. Stories of shadowy beings performing possession or obsession… Scary and true.
Dreams may surprise you… Your mind may slowly awake… You build the blocks back… slowly but surely… It takes some time… Patience is all it takes to build that great relationship with God:)

VERY IMPORTANT… The main purpose is in the building of a healthy relationship with God. The rest will fall naturally into place.

I promise you… God will come to you… 🙂

I wish I knew a book like that.

Some people are prone to depression, seemingly for no particular reason. I have always been a melancholic, which means that sometimes I have a depressed mood. This blog post describes me perfectly and has some tips for improvement which may also help you or whomever you had in mind.

Stumbled here because I was looking for information on Mel Bond. My wife’s aunt invited us to a passion play at Bond’s church on Easter. I’m leery of the idea, my wife is of the persuasion that “we all worship the same God, so does it matter?” especially since we’ll be going to Mass first.

Can I ask what you all think of Mel Bond after you’ve had time to review some of his works? I’ve not been able to watch his videos yet but he does have his critics. At the same time I know there’s considerable backbiting between pastors in independent churches, which is shameful but it also means that criticism isn’t necessarily true (and as Catholics we know that from talking with our protestant brethren).

For such a person, The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning. It’s all about grace for broken people. I read it at a time I was struggling with abuse of alcohol (something I share with Brennan Manning) and found it very supportive in my recovery.

I personally like the books that contain revelations from Jesus to people, because He can really use those 🙂

My favourites include Divine Mercy in My Soul, Way of Divine Love, and He and I.
