Does anyone know if The Breast Cancer Research Foundation has any questionable ties or if it is safe to support it?

I don’t know if they contribute to the evil that is Planned Parenthood like the Susan G. Komen Foundation does. But I did a search for the term “abortion” on their website www.bcrfcure.org and got no results. So the fact that they are complicit in covering up the proven abortion-breast cancer link is reason enough for me not to support them.

On a related note, the latest Cheerios box brags about giving money to Susan G. Komen. Guess my little ones will have to settle for some type of generic O’s!

For some reason I am thinking this organization is clean, but kind of agree with previous poster that a truly outstanding organization would have info regarding the BCP/cancer link.

The Breast Cancer Prevention Institute is DEFINITELY clean. www.bcpinstitute.org

One thing to check when donating money for any type of cancer research is whether the organization funds research using embryonic stem cells. I’m not sure if the groups mentioned above do or not. Even some the ones that do will let you designate your donation so that none of the money goes towards those particular research grants, but you should always check.

I know Susan G. Kohmen has strong links to Planned Parenthood.

I’ve heard that the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Avon Foundation, and the Brest Cancer Istitute are all good. Those are the ones they talk about in the Church bulletin.

Sometimes it’s a tough choice for choosing what charity to donate to.

I don’t like everything that The Humane Society does, but I still donate to them.

Granted, if The Breast Cancer Research Foundation does support sickening things like abortion-it’s a tad different than The Humane Society’s view on hunting.

I believe Avon supports Planned Parenthood. Here’s an article attached.

I think www.nationalbreastcancer.org is okay but I am still checking…
I know Avon has another fund for the “empowerment of women” that teams up with UNIFEM and PP does show up on the list of “charities” one can fund raise for.

But I don’t know the the BC fund money partially supports Planned Parenthood and similar clinics.

I just have to say this…there is no proven link between the action of an abortion and an increase in breast cancer chances. ALL the research has shown to include the specific prolife research that mentioned those studies that found a so-called link to abortion and breast cancer all say the same thing…that breast-FEEDING lowers your chance of future breast cancer…that means that a woman that has never had sex (a nun,) thus never got pregnant, a woman that miscarried, a woman that gave birth but place in adoption, a woman that gave birth but never breastfed and a woman that have had an abortion all carry the SAME risk for future breastcancer that they had before the incident of pregnancy arose (or in the case of life long celibacy, the same when they went through puberty). Its a simple mathematical equation…

If a group of women all have a 10% chance of BC in the future and the following occurred here is where there chances would lie after the incident.
Mother who breastfed = 5% chance of BC
Woman who miscarried or had a stillbirth = 10%
Woman who had an abortion = 10%
Woman who never got pregnant = 10%
Woman who gave child up for adoption = 10%
mother who never breastfed = 10%

To say that abortion causes an increase in BC is a ignorance of the research or at most a bald-face lie.

THANK YOU!

I am as pro-life as they come, and I am catholic as well.

However, I CRINGE when I hear this rubbish. There is NO credible research between the two!

And like I said, I would put up my pro-life credentials against anyone.

I can understand the prolife side of things, even if personally and politically I disagree with it (I’m prochoice) and I feel that most of the prolifers really are tryign to help women choose to give birth, but I abhor the way that they sometimes do it, through intimidation, fear, and lies. There is a crisis pregnancy center down the street that one day I went into because they advertised that they provided birth control options and were a medical clinic. I discovered that they had no medical license, although one woman claimed to be a nurse (I have doubts with the way she spoke in non-medical terms about medicine and science, and also her lack of understanding for how one method of BC worked and why) and then proceeded to “reel” me in to her way of thinking, trying to be understanding and talk the way I did (once she gauged my views) offered me several phamphlets on BC options ( in a manner that suggested that I would find nonbias medical fact about the BC) When I read them later I was absolutely disgusted at the absolute lies that were told and I later returned and let them be aware of my dissatisfaction of their methods to promote an agenda.

I have absolutely no problem with prolfie centers that set up to help provide for women that want to give birth but may not have the financial means to, or that help place children for adoption. I have no problem if they are against BC or abortion and do not offer that service. I DO have a problem when they confuse, lie and trick women into thinking that they are a medical facility that can give them all their options in nonbias educational manner, and then hound them into their ideology. You need to resort to lies and trickery to be prolife and believe that abortion should not be legal.

I was glad when I heard in Baltimore that they passed a law that stated that all CPCs must plainly list their services for people to see and what they do not do. Prolifers however saw this as an infringement of their rights, that they somehow had the right to lie and trick women into walking into their doors under false pretenses. They shout that clinics that provide abortions have to plainly list all medical services and a whole list of other criteria to make it safe for women (as a medical facility it is already under regulation of the medical community and laws) and to provide women with unbias facts, so why not these CPCs? By all means let them operate helping women choose birth, but hold them accountable when they lie to falsely trick and coerce women to “choose” It would be abhorant if a prochoice tricked a woman to have an abortion under false pretenses, why not the reverse?

i didn’t know there was an apparent “link” between abortion and breast cancer. I do know that some birth control makes you more likely to get breast cancer. i wonder if women who get abortions are more likely to take birth control making it look as if there was a link between the two?

The only link that I have found for hormonal Bc and breast cancer through my extensive study has to do with long term use over about 10 years continuously, or in some cases a possible link with women that get on it, then get off, then get back on it and so on, throughout ten years or so, causing fluctuations in their hormone levels. This is mainly the combined hormones. Progesterone only contraceptives have not been linked to breast cancer risks. The problem with trying to decide if one link causes breast cancer, is that a number of factors need to be taken into account, family history, environmental issues, having children later in life rather than in your 20s, early start of periods, late menopause, certain foods that contain hormones (steriod and hormones in cows during raising for example) Also the incident of breast feeding lowers your risk so can factor into your overall risk.

Robn, actually, there’s no serious dispute of the fact that delaying first full-term pregnancy increases the risk of breast cancer later in life. Thus, an abortion prior to first live birth inevitably increases a woman’s risk of breast cancer:

“According to the National Cancer Institute, having a full-term pregnancy at or before age 20 offers the most protection against developing breast cancer. This may cut your risk of breast cancer in half.” breastcancer.about.com/od/riskfactorsindetail/a/preg_lower_risk.htm

There is legitimate dispute only about whether there is an additional risk of BC, not related to delay of first full-term pregancy, caused by abortion. Dr. Brind cites persuasive evidence that there is. Planned Parenthood and their allies of course deny it, but they are not a reliable source. In fact, they don’t even admit that an abortion before first live birth increases the risk of BC, which is about as disputable as the evidence that cigarette smoking increases the risk of lung cancer. But Planned Parenthood’s dishonesty isn’t surprising. After all, they are in the business of killing babies (and, often, covering up child sex-trafficking). Lying comes naturally to them.

Maybe things in Canada are different than in the states but I would NEVER donate to the Breas Cancer society in Canada. They take a serious disease and then use the feminist agenda to further there cause. They come across as having the #1 goals of empowering women and curing a disease seems to be a minor secondary issue. I heard one women give a talk on it and she kept saying ‘It was a great experience’ She made her ‘journey’ sound like a trip to club med yikes

Also, I have seen calendars of topless women created by the breast cancer society to raise money for breast cancer. That disgusts me. One ‘friend’ told me I had missed the point and they are trying to say that breast are not bad ! Well, my dad had 2 prostate operations and there is nothing wrong with him but you would never see his penis in a calendar!

So in a nut shell, personally, I would not give them 1 cent

I really am sick of the Breast Cancer Fund in General. Not that I don;t want to see a cure for Breast Cancer…or any cancer in general, but they get SOOOO much focus and money, and they actually deflect PR and Money from other diseases that plague women. Like Heart Disease, which is actually the #1 killer of women.

I also don’t get the coorelation between funding abortions and researching cures for Breast Cancer. I really agree with the above poster, it seems like a lot of the Breast Cancer foundations (NOT all) are really more liberal/feminist machines and not organizations for reasearch.

Also a diagnose of Breast Cancer while pregnant is not a reason for abortion, my daughter’s preschool teacher is an example of that. They waited to start her treatment until after her son was born, and she had a BAD diagnose…double masectomy and everything, yet here she is today with a beautiful 2 year old son and cancer free.

I think that abortions directly affect a woman’s risk for uterine cancer- I wouldn’t doubt that this would correlate with the breast cancer because Our bodies are systems. A good friend of mine had an abortion a long time ago and she ended up getting uterine cancer and having a hysterectomy. Anyways, I haven’t had the time to go through the research but a real life experience seems to be a good start at proof. Abortion doesn’t seem to be a supportive measure to the life of the baby or the state of the mother’s health as well.

There are studies linking breast cancer and abortion…this is from the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute…

"In a normal pregnancy, the mother’s ovaries begin producing extra estrogen within a few days after conception. The level of estrogen in her blood rises by 2,000% by the end of the first trimester-to a level more than six times higher than it ever gets in the non-pregnant state.

It is the undifferentiated cells in the breasts which estrogen stimulates to proliferate, so that there will be enough milk-producing tissue to feed the baby after birth. Only the undifferentiated cells are vulnerable to carcinogens, and can ultimately grow into cancer cells.

Importantly, during the last 8 weeks of pregnancy, other hormones differentiate these cells into milk-producing cells. In the process the growth potential-and cancer-forming potential-of these cells is turned off. That is why a full-term pregnancy lowers the risk of breast cancer later in life.

Therefore, if a woman who has gone through some weeks or months of a normal pregnancy chooses abortion, she is left with more of these cancer-vulnerable cells in her breasts than were there before she got pregnant, which raises her risk of breast cancer later in life."
For the rest of the article:
bcpinstitute.org/brochure.htm

If we can all agree that a young, full term pregnancy (as well as extended breastfeeding) reduces the risk for breast cancer, why is it such a stretch for people to even consider that unnaturally disrupting a healthy pregnancy through induced abortion could increase your risk? It all has to do with estrogen exposure, that is why a woman who starts her period early or enters menopause late in life has an increased risk…it all has to do with the additional estrogen she is exposed to in her lifetime.

This is a good article on the blog I participate in…
The woman who posted this was actually treated for breast cancer WHILE pregnant. She’s very pro-life and has done a ton of research and has a good list of charities that are okay to donate to…
