"The Call to Sacrifice" - # 3

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

This is now my third post from Chapter 9, on the “Call to Sacrifice” in Sister Lucia’s book, “Calls” From the Message of Fatima. It contains so much good for us all to heed, as ordinary persons, called by Baptism to live extra-ordinary lives! We are not called to mediocrity but to holiness that comes from remaining in Jesus. Sister wisely wrote: “In order to attain salvation, it is not enough to do no wrong; we all also have a duty to practice virtue in doing good.”

Sister helps us to learn how to make a sacrifice out of many little things, such as:

To endure uncomplainingly, whatever little annoyances we encounter on our path: sometimes it may be a disagreeable, irritating or unpleasant word…it may be an ironic smile, a look of disdain…it is necessary to know how to endure all things, offering our sacrifice to God, and letting things drop: to let all these things pass, as if we were blind, deaf and dumb in order that we may, in fact, see better, speak with greater certainty, and hear the voice of God.

Yes, the word “sacrifice”, literally from Latin, means “to make holy”. Offering these little things with a heart of love for God and neighbor can truly serve to make us holy in God’s sight. Thank you, dear Sister Lucia, for sharing God’s wisdom with us. Truly you are being like Mary whom you saw and heard and learned from on this earth. Intercede for us now, with our Mother in heaven, that we may learn as you both did from Jesus, Meek and Humble of Heart.
