And he said, “Take heed that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and, ‘The time is at hand!’ Do not go after them. 21.9 And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified; for this must first take place, but the end will not be at once.” 21.10 Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; 21.11 there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.
§ The Beginnings of the Troubles
21.12 But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake. 21.13 This will be a time for you to bear testimony. 21.14 Settle it therefore in your minds, not to meditate beforehand how to answer; 21.15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. 21.16 You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and kinsmen and friends, and some of you they will put to death; 21.17 you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. 21.18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 21.19 By your endurance you will gain your lives.
§ The Desolating Sacrilege
21.20. " But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near. 21.21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who are inside the city depart, and let not those who are out in the country enter it; 21.22 for these are days of vengeance, to fulfil all that is written. 21.23 Alas for those who are with child and for those who give suck in those days! For great distress shall be upon the earth and wrath upon this people; 21.24 they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led captive among all nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
§ The Parousia of the Son of Man
21.25 " And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, 21.26 men fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 21.27 And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 21.28 Now when these things begin to take place, look up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
§ The Parable of the Fig Tree
21.29 And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees; 21.30 as soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. 21.31 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
§ The Time of the Parousia
21.32 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all has taken place. 21.33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
§ Luke’s Ending to the Discourse
21.34 " But take heed to yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a snare; 21.35 for it will come upon all who dwell upon the face of the whole earth. 21.36 But watch at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of man.”

is all this beginning since the tsunami and this year haiti, chile, mexico, turkey, china, island…?

Well, since these things have been going on for 2000 years after this remark, I wouldn’t get too concerned.

There have been earthquakes and volcanoes and tsunamis since the dawn of time. What makes these ones any different?

There have been FAR WORSE earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis than the recent ones, too!

While I definitely do believe that God likes to act through symbolism and signs, we must be very, very careful before judging natural disasters to be a warning of the end times.

Matthew 24:6-8 (RSV)
6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: 8 all this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs.

I read this once and asked myself what do “birth pangs” have to do with anything? Then it clicked, just as a women goes into labor, the beginning birth pangs are slight and far apart ,but as the end of the labor draws near, so do the birth pangs get closer and closer and become more and more intense, and so do these “signs” in the end times!

The number of earthquakes stronger than 7.0 in the past 12 months is normal. The average yearly number of such strong earthquakes is around 18 so what has been happening is normal. Its not a warning! Its not even unusual!!

The birth pangs have not gotten closer.

What has happened recently is our knowledge of these birth pains has intensified.

The Christian today needs to worry about their own particular end of times and attempt to be prepared for that end to happen tomorrow. If you are prepared for your own end of times, then you shouldn’t be concerned about the general end of times.

**The Catholic Catechism

The Church’s ultimate trial**
675 Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers.574 The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth 575 will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.576

681 On Judgment Day at the end of the world, Christ will come in glory to achieve the definitive triumph of good over evil which, like the wheat and the tares, have grown up together in the course of history.

682 When he comes at the end of time to judge the living and the dead, the glorious Christ will reveal the secret disposition of hearts and will render to each man according to his works, and according to his acceptance or *refusal *of grace.

574 Cf. Lk 18:8; Mt 24:12.
575 Cf. Lk 21:12; Jn 15:19-20.
576 Cf. 2 Thess 2:4-12; 1 Thess 5:2-3; 2 Jn 7; 1 Jn 2:18,22.

I agree, but man hasn’t invented glorifying himself in place of God over the last decade. This has been going on since Caesar Augusta and far earlier. Spend more time worrying about your own end of times because that’s far more likely to happen before the world end of times.

There are many prophesies that are being fulfilled now were supposed to happen in the end times. I am too lazy to look em up right now, but one of em was a settlement of suburbs being built up in a certain area described, and they are building in the are described right now.
Jerusalem is surrounded by armies that are bent on its destruction, infact our own government is demanding that Benjamin Netanyahu spit Jerusalem in half and some know of his horrible treatment of this leader of the only democratic republic in the region.

There are thoughts that since Israel is reformed, this is the generation in which all things will be fulfilled. A generation in bible speak is 50-75 years (or something like that).

Israel will defend herself from Persia and the other wacko mohammedan states and they have before with unreasonable success. If a nuclear weapon is used in this defense then the whole world will be involved and **** will start going bad quick.

I wouldnt be so quick to dismiss the thoughts considering the other things happening in correlation to it.

A generation is 40 years in the Bible.

But I seriously doubt that the Israel formed today is anything but a mimicry of the Israel in the OT.

As regards our personal salvation, we should be prepared for the world to end tomorrow, but we shouldn’t live like the world would end tomorrow.

Jesus specifically said that “no one but the Father knows this (the end times)”. I’m going to trust him over any tea-leaf readers.

The following link is an article written by a couple of Creationists, which points out that the number of ***big ***earthquakes has actually been decreasing in frequency in more recent times.

ldolphin.org/quakes2.html

I think we need to be cognisant of the fact there are more heavily populated centres than in past centuries. Cities like Shanghai, Peking and Tokyo with their teeming millions were unknown. In 1600AD for example, it was estimated London had about 200,000 people.

Now Greater London has about 7.5 million, 37.5 times that number. (This is one of the reasons I’m cynical about the church’s teaching on artificial contraception. How many people does the church think London should support for example? Who is going to provide the infrastructure, the energy and other requirements for another 7.5 million Londoners? But that’s another story.)

Hence when a natural catastrophe strikes in a heavily populated area, it has a much greater impact.

Secondly in centuries past, no one knew or cared what happened overseas. An earthquake in Haiti or China in the Middle Ages would have gone unnoticed by the Christian West.

That said, I still think there is immense trouble coming, but it’s likely to be man-made. A natural catastrophe may have implications to be sure, just as Bubonic Plague had immense repercussions for Medieval Society. But by and large anti-Christian forces work through people. When martyrs were being killed all over the Soviet Union in the 20th century, they were killed by people, not natural disasters. Diseases and earthquakes are non-selective - they kill both Christians and non-Christians.

Or if you like, God causes earthquakes to kill both the just and the unjust, to paraphrase another Scriptural quote.
