The Cathloic Church has had three people that that have been “immaculately conceived”
Can you name the three ?
Can you name the three ?
At least as far as I know, Adam and Eve don’t count, they were created prior to original sin. Obviously this would mean they were created with out sin, but I think the term, certainly as applied to Mary, is suggestive that there was such a thing as original sin. As far as I know, dogmatically Mary’s status is “signular” among creatures at least.I believe it’s four - Adam and Eve, Christ (the new Adam) and Mary (the new Eve).
Through the centuries the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, “full of grace” through God,134 was redeemed from the moment of her conception. That is what the dogma of the Immaculate Conception confesses, as Pope Pius IX proclaimed in 1854:
The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin.135
I do not count Adam or Eve so you have two, missing oneAt least as far as I know, Adam and Eve don’t count, they were created prior to original sin. Some in the early Church, beleived that Joseph was also Immaculatly Concived, but this was never a dogmatic teaching and I would guess never will be. It seems to be more in line with many other now rejected early Christian beliefs. Perhaps not so far as being considered “heretical”, but not taught, and as far as I know not accepted.

what two do you refer to? I don’t count Joseph because it was mearly an early Christian theory which has since died out (at least mostly), and Christ being God/Man isn’t counted in the same sense as Mary… Jesus wasn’t just born with a speacial Grace… Jesus was born God as well as man, he was born able to bestow Grace.I do not count Adam or Eve so you have two, missing one
As previously mentioned - Adam and Even came before the fall of manThe Cathloic Church has had three people that that have been “immaculately conceived”

Three people have been born with out sinThe Cathloic Church has had three people that that have been “immaculately conceived”

Ahhhh…born without sin is a slightly different situation than immaculately conceived.Three people have been born with out sin
I think It was you that point out my error,Thank you, I know some thing was wrong I just did not see itAhhhh…born without sin is a slightly different situation than immaculately conceived.
In that case, we have Mary, Jesus, and…???
Doesn’t mean he (or Elijah) were born without sin though. So the third is definitely John the Baptist.Perhaps Enoch? If the wage of sin is death, and Enoch did not die, it could bu supposed that Enoch lived without sin…
BINGO We have a winner in roll 2Doesn’t mean he (or Elijah) were born without sin though. So the third is definitely John the Baptist.
You are wrong about John the Baptist. That he was without sin is specualtion, but is not taught definitively by the ChurchBINGO We have a winner in roll 2
Mary
Jesus
John the Baptist Luke 1 :15
I would not go so far to say that he is wrong. The Church is silent on the subject as far as I know. So going by scripture, I would say Bill is correct and the teaching (unofficial) that John was born without sin is believed by many. You are wrong about John the Baptist. Of course correct with in the context of the redefined context of “born with out sin”, rather than “immaculate conception”.I would not go so far to say that he is wrong.
