I’ve listened a bit. I am not impressed. Most of the hosts that I’ve heard (and I’ve heard only some) are trying too hard to be hip, cool, funny or something.

There is a blend with secular information, who was born on this date, etc., that I don’t care for.

If I wanted ABC news, I’d listen to ABC.

It seems like the whole channel is trying to be entertaining. I’ll try it again…maybe.

My dh has XM, which has nothing catholic at all.
And we don’t get EWTN AT ALL here. It’s not available on radio dial and even with cable you’d have to pay extra to get it. We don’t have cable at all.

**sigh XM was a gift last year from his parents, so I doubt I’ll be seeing Sirus anytime soon.😦 **
I love Ewtn radio also but it’s not available in my area there are 87 parishes in my diocese yet in Christian County Ky
one parish they get EWTN radio, “go figure”.
However as long as you have a computer just go to EWTN click on radio and live programming
It’s a little tough to do in your car however.

I don’t want to be too critical, but I think some folks here are too critical. 🙂 (Yes, it’s written to be funny).

I’ve commented before in these forums that Catholics can be really discouraging. Maybe too discouraging? As a young woman, I listen to the Catholic channel and feel like those folks are real people. That in itself is inspiring and I guarantee it speaks to lots of people my age.

I realize you can’t please all the people all the time, but the new Catholic channel is orthodox and entertaining. I can’t ask for anything more than that. If someone wants serious substance, you can’t beat EWTN. But if someone is easing into Catholicism, the new Catholic Channel is welcoming but still orthodox. It’s a breath of fresh air.

When people are orthodox I think we as Catholics need to support 'em.

An awfully large chunk of Sirius total revenue goes to paying Howard Stern’s salary. What was it, a BILLION dollar ten year deal!?! Puke.

I’m lucky since I have Relevant Radio available free on good old fashioned AM radio. So I’m sending the money that would otherwise go into Stern’s pocket to Relevant Radio instead. Check out their website and podcast options if you live outside their broadcast area and (like me) can’t stand to think of your money funding Stern. RR is very orthodox and has teh blessing of the bishops in their home area. People seem to mysteriously disappear from the network with alarming regularity, but the braodcasts are always trustworthy.
I think this attitude is really sad and disheartening. If we don’t show the big networks that there really is a large and viable Catholic audience out there, they won’t even try!

I think the Catholic Channel is doing an excellent job so far, and they can only improve with time. Most shows, tv and radio, need time to level out and find their sweet spot, so to speak. This can only be done through time and feedback from listeners. I am impressed so far, and hope to see more and better programming from them in the future.

I also have to agree with one of the posters right above me, that it’s a breath of fresh air to finally have something that is fun and still Catholic!

Hey! Even some sisters who wear the full habit know how to get out and have a good time over a volleyball net! Why is it that if we are Catholic, we must be dour and sour faced, and always whipping ourselves and miserable? This is a beautiful and grace filled life that Christ has given us!! Not to mention the beauty and wonder of our Faith! Let’s laugh and enjoy being alive and happy in that Faith, and show the world that being Catholic is indeed a fun and positive place to be, in spite of our challenges!!!

**I can read it, not hear it. dial up and a life means waiting for things like that to load conflict.🙂 **

I haven’t heard either by radio.

**ONCE I have seen the EWTN show late, late at night the night my Bridget was born because the hospital got that channel. Liked it!👍 **

I also think being a orthodox Catholic needs to be enough.

I’m not trying to be more Catholic than the Pope.
I’m just trying to be Catholic enough for God to let me into heaven bragging my dh and dc kicking and screaming with me.

**That’s hard enough.🙂 **

I did check out the Busted Halo website, and saw that they give people with an alternate point of view a voice. BUT when I’ve heard Fr Dave Dwyer explain Catholic beliefs, he’s done a beautiful and correct job. I think his show and Lino’s really appeal to my teens (and me.)

As for the laughter and fun on the shows, I’ve been to the EWTN studios and seen Mother Angelica, the Brothers, and even the cloistered Sisters laughing, having fun, and cutting up.

I belong ro to a tech forum and I recently heard this story about Sirius wanting to buy XM.

orbitcast.com/archives/xms-fading-signal-sparks-takeover-talk-cnn.html

I am seriously looking into buying the Sirius Stilletto 100. Not only is it a Satellite Radio, its also a 4gb MP3 player and has Wifi to get Internet Radio.

shop.sirius.com/edealinv/servlet/ExecMacro?nurl=control/StoreItem.vm&ctl_nbr=2640&siId=1745656&catParentID=7874&scId=7874&oldParentID=7870

The ideal solution would be for the next Ipod to have Sirius Satellite Radio.

That little Stilletto is totally slick!!!

I’m so tempted to keep my subscription - I know I will really miss the Catholic Channel after it expires at the end of the month. 😦 Must see how the budget looks… 😉

Well - as soon as I can get the Sirius web page to load, I’ll be emailing the Catholic Channel…

This morning, at 7:50 Central Time I was driving to work, listening to “Seize The Day”. The Catholic Channel, unlime EWTN, plays non-commercial commercials, some are for other Sirius stations and some are pseudo info-mercials. During that 7:50 AM break, one of the info-mercials is talking about women with PMDD and interviewing a “suffer” from this… the announcer says “her doctor decided she would benefit from the XXName brand CONTRACEPTIVE PILL”. The interviewee goes on to exthol the virtues of this CONTRACEPTIVE PILL, how she has benefited so much. The tag is for more information, go to blah blah website.

While using contraceptive pills to treat other medical issues is sometimes permissible, there is no reason whatsoever for a name brand of a contraceptive to be advertised in any way shape or form on The Catholic Channel!

I’m aghast. My sirius reciever is now nailed to EWTN.

I have heard some of these morally objectionable commercials, as well. Last night on Lino Rulli’s show there was a commercial for condoms, and so I emailed him to see why they’re running things clearly in opposition to the Catholic faith.

Here’s his reply back to me. Lino is a very orthodox guy, and I believe what he says. Plus, I like him so I’m willing to cut him some slack. 🙂

Hi Julie,
Thanks for your email and for listening to the show! I do appreciate it.

As for the public service announcements, I heard the condom one yesterday and got out of my mind upset. I immediately called my program director and told him we could NEVER run anything like that again. It’s absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing. I talked to him after the show about it, as well.

He gave me his word that it was a mistake. And that the problem was being fixed. There’s some issue with the computer or something, but he knows its a BIG problem.

All I can do is apologize and give you my word that if I ever hear stupid psa’s like that again I’ll be criticizing the Channel on the air. 🙂 Which will get me in trouble at work, but at least people will know they’re not on with my blessing?

Thanks again for listening to the show. It means a lot to me. And I’m sorry you were offended. I was too.

God bless
Lino

I like EWTN and this new Catholic Channel. I don’t blame anyone for being upset, however, but I’ve said it before and will say it again: I’m not going to criticize “mistakes” when good, orthodox people are at least trying to get the Faith to others.

I would LOVE to be able to listen to the channel online! I can only get Sirius in the car, so I can’t listen at other times.

Ok - let’s all go over to the Sirus site and tell them to make it available online!!! 👍

When you bought your sirius for your car were you not also given the option of purchasing the “boombox” for the home? I take my sirius radio to the car when I am driving and then take it back to the boombox when I am inside.
Bob Dunning has had a regular show (the Bishop’s Hour) on the Catholic radio station in Sacramento for years and now he has his three hour show on the Catholic Channel. His main interest is news and he sometimes can’t stop talking on and on. He is an admitted Democrat and that became very obvious at times.

I only have Sirus as part of the lease on my vehicle, it’s only for one year, and the radio is internal and did not come with a home component. 😦

I’ve been digging and digging, cannot find an email address for the morning show on the Catholic Channel, nor for the Channel in general 😦

Since Lino has his own web site, I might just email him…

The Archdiocese of New York sponsers The Catholic Channel. My suggestion would be to tell Cardinal Egan your concerns. The Archdiocese of New York has a website.

Can someone please post the link to Lino Rulli’s website? I tried to Google it but I couldn’t come up with anything.

Thanks!
