I have a very critical ear for anything unorthodox re our Catholic Faith, and so far have found the programming excellent:thumbsup:

I was listening to Fr Paul Keenan and was very impressed with his belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. I think every show host has mentioned confession! 😃
I followed Fr Paul for quite a few years on WABC radio NYC,where he co hosted on a Sunday morning show Religion On The Line.He is a good one.:angel1:

I work at XM and won’t be subscribing to Sirius anytime soon. 🙂

Exec VP for Programming Eric Logan is Catholic and says he’d like there to be a Catholic channel on XM. But I guess he figures the return on bandwidth wouldn’t make it worthwhile.

Welcome Cygnus! Like black holes, eh?

Glad to have SOMEONE from XM give a comment. I’ve emailed XM three times and never had anyone reply to my inquiries. I understand it would be a low volume channel but really, some of the channels on XM are quite obscure and niche. The folks who do long commutes and truck drivers would surely enjoy EWTN as much as some of those odd music channels, wouldn’t you think? I’m sure you have research, though…But it just seems a bit odd that Sirius can justify two Catholic channels and XM won’t run one. Seems like an easy thing to do would be to combine a couple of those Christian music channels and put EWTN on one…I can’t tell the difference between them anyway.

Okay, my dh got XM for christmas last year and he gave me Sirius for chirstmas this year.

What he likes about XM - the sports talk and MLB.
**What we used to like were many of the XM music only stations. **
I like the mobility of the XM system better than the Sirius. The stileto from Sirius is way too expensive to pay for the same pick up and go convienence.
What we don’t like is that XM has started putting commericals on their channels. Not “listen to whatever XM channel” commercials either, but car commercials and such. Extremely annoying. I actually like the music stations on XM better, but I hate the commercials enough to prefer my Sirius.

**What we don’t like about XM is the complete lack of response to customers. My dh has also posted the message board and emailed and such. Nothing. It’s not even negative response. It’s complete and total ignoring. I must admit this is a biggie for us. We both have spent a good deal of our life training others and in customer relations - which means we have very little tolorance for bad service. We both feel a strong desire to give a coaching session!😛 **
I like that Sirius is easier to use in the car. It’s a bit of a … um… driving hazzard to use the XM. The screen and buttons are too small to just glace at quickly to change channels. The Sirius is more dashboard friendly, imo. However, I like that the XM has battery and doesn’t have to be plugged to the lighter. (Which we had to buy and install in our 12-pass van , btw!)
I don’t like the remote with my Sirius. It’s not very ergonomic and could be more friendly. Where the “0” and the “9” are placed annoys me and I don’t like that I have to enter 3 digits to change the station to let’s say channel 60 and that I have to press select to enter the station number. Too many steps. Don’t they know I’m doing this with one hand while dodging the remote away from a wiggly 7 mo old?!

Oh and it royally ticked us off to have to pay an activation fee. What? We buy this exclusive and expensive equipment and buy 3 months of service in advance AND you want us to pay you to actually turn the service on?! What the… Yes, it’s $15. But you know what? After spending nearly $200 before we even get to listen to it - being told to spend another $15 to turn it on is just really grating, kwim?

Which reminds me that I’d like the boombox thingy to by about half the size it is. It’s really bulky and is a bit of a hassel to place in the home. We just hooked up the XM to some little speakers while it sat in the charging cradle. Takes up maybe a whopping 6 inches of counter/shelf space.

Our XM expires in a couple of months and I don’t know if we’ll renew it for Rob or just buy him something to use the Sirius in his car too. At this point, we may renew mostly to avoid that huge outlay of funds to have Sirius in his car for him. I know the commercials have seriously ticked him off. (He knows tht some channels are not by XM and chose to have channels, but the XM made stations should be commercial free in our opinion.) Also, I think MLB is switching and that may be the tip to the scale. My dh is a HUGE baseball junkie.

So there is our XM vs Sirius p.o.v.** **

In all fairness, I believe the new commercials are being put on there by Clear Channel, who provides the music, or something to that effect. XM has a notice on their website…

But, that still doesn’t chaneg the fact that they NEVER respond to emails…other than the auto-reply.

Right, some of XM’s channels are just feeds. IOW, XM doesn’t do the programming, they just pick up the line and feed it through their system. I get that. But it isn’t just the music channels and it isn’t just Clear Channel communications. And a major selling feature of satelite is commercial free programming. Which they changed after we purchased our package and paid for an entire year. I feel XM had an obligation to their customers to negotiate the stations they picked up be commerical free.

Also, it’s not just emails.

**ETA: color!😉 **

If MLB switches to Sirius, I’ll be all over Sirius. Of course, with WBEZ discontinuing jazz programming soon, I’ll probably be listening to more music on XM.

What we don’t like is that XM has started putting commericals on their channels.
Music channels, and only on the four that have content from Clear Channel. We have 69 channels – more than The Dog – that are completely commercial free.

The talk and sports channels have always had commercials. But that’s true of The Dog too.

Try a letter to CEO Hugh Panero. That’ll work. (All I can say is I don’t work in Listener Care.)

Nope. The contract runs through 2016.

An update to this topic, XM now has The Catholic Channel. You can listen to Lino Rulli, The Catholics Next Door, Busted Halo and more on channel 117 on XM. Still 159 on Sirius!

Praise God! I wasn’t aware of that! All I’ve been listening to is CNBC since the markets went south. This will give me something else!

SiriusXM announced today that, along with their channel additions for both Sirius and XM subscribers, The Catholic Channel is now available to XM listeners on channel 117.

Now my XM Catholic friends can listen to Lino Rulli, The Catholics Next Door, Busted Halo and more on channel 117 on XM. Still 159 on Sirius!

I am so excited at the additional/potential 8-10 million listeners who will get to hear about the faith in this fun format.

If it wasn’t for this channel, I wouldn’t be on my way to converting to the Catholic faith.

I love TCC. It is literally a lifesaver.

It’s about time we XM listeners get some Catholic programming! I don’t know much about The Catholic Channel. What more info can you give?

Now if XM could bring EWTN over…

See, EWTN always seems a bit… boring.

That’s not a knock, but as a 25-year-old, I can identify with programming on TCC much more than EWTN (how I wish the nuns would smile during the rosary. Just crack a smirk at least!).

Basically you could call TCC a “catholic lifestyle” program. Shows like The Catholic Guy (with Lino Rulli) and The Catholics Next Door (hosted by Greg and Jennifer Willits from The Rosary Army) are very funny and entertaining while teaching listeners a little about the Catholic faith. There’s also a show called Busted Halo hosted by Paulist Father Dave Dwyer which is humorous as well, but also has segments like “What Did You Hear” where callers tell about their church’s homily and “Faith In Culture Thursday” where people find spiritual meaning in secular music.

And of course, there’s the “heavier” programming like A Conversation with the Cardinal (an hour each week with Cardinal Egan from New York). There’s basically something for everyone on this channel! Hope you listen!

Like on Tuesday or Friday?

LOL I’m sure they do smile. Just not whenever I flip it over! 🙂

Okay, no offense Celticsfan, but I can’t say I have been too impressed so far. I am not THAT ancient at 32 years old, but I have to say I much prefer the programming of EWTN.

Quite honestly, so far every time I have tuned in, I have felt like I am listening to “Life on the Rock,” which is far from being my favorite EWTN show.

If you get something out of it, great. But to me, every time I have tuned in so far it has seemed like some kind of pop psych call in show.

Of course, everything seems good and orthodox so far. I guess I just don’t care for the format.
🤷

I have XM and have just noticed that I now have the Catholic Channel from Sirius. I was all excited. But after I heard my first show I was kind of skeptical. There seemed to be a lack of maturity. But at first I didn’t here anything that was against the churches teachings, so I figured I listen to it a little more. Tonight I was listening to the show Busted Halo. I heard some pretty disturbing things. They were talking about the election. And they seemed to be arguing in favor of the “Catholics” that voted for Obama. The statement that the Bishops put out made it pretty clear that voting for a President that is pro abortion is an intrinsic evil. Now the hosts on this show were trying to spin this in a direction that took away the culpability for those that voted for a pro-abortion candidate. This disturbed me greatly.
Does anyone know how orthodox this radio station is? I haven’t been listening to it long, so I don’t if that is a common thing or not. I was excited to see a Catholic channel on satellite radio, and that it was kinda “upbeat” for the younger generation. But I’m worried that it is teaching things that are un-Catholic.
