The Catholic Church is not Christian...

Years ago a Presbyterian friend told me her pastor told her the Catholic church is a cult. His definition of cult was a church that doesn’t accept sola scriptura. I explained about Church, Tradition, Magisterium and their relation to Scripture. She entered the Catholic church last Easter.

I don’t see how you could say it isn’t Christian, because we believe that Christ died to save us from sin.

I am Presbyterian and in my 50 years I cannot recall ever hearing a disparaging remark in that church. Of course I can’t speak for every individual, but then again, I suppose that there are probably some individual Catholics who would not consider a Presbyterian a Christian

If we take up Christians those who follow the Christ JesusYeshuaIssa and the Catholic Church the institution that was formed on a rock to protect Scriptures, Practices and Traditions of Christ and analyse its performance, following points come to my mind:
  1. To start with it has (the Catholic Church) neither any beyond doubt Scriptures with it consisting on the Words from the mouth of GodAllahYHWH revealed on the heart of JesusChrist and written by him instantly, nor it feels any need for it. On the first place it has no ScriptureProper to rely on as stated above.
  2. The Catholic Church does not have the PracticesProper, consisting of the acts done by Jesus on regular basis, daily,weakly or monthly basis to implement the Word of GodAllahYHWH revealed on him. This could be perceived from the changes made in the early Church (First Century AD) before the formation of the Bible.
  3. The Catholic Church does not have even Words from the mouth of JesusYeshuaIssa, very few quotes from him in his Hebrew or Aramaic languages whih he, his mother Mary and the twelve Apostles spoke. Its scriptures are not therefore even TaditionProper consisting of his life accounts written by the Apostles before the event of Crucifixion and signed or certified by the Christ himself, nothing of this sort.
I am not agaisnt the Catholic Church, but one must be realistic to see the performances of the Catholic Church on the basis of the natural goals of a Church, from the event of Crucifixion to date.

Not me! I always hoped my friend would become Catholic because she was such a good Presbyterian and loved the Lord.

This pastor was very highly regarded and I’m sure he didn’t say this in church, probably in a class, or she asked him directly and he said what he honestly believed. This happened in Maryland close to DC.

This is silly. Just go check out any Catholic-specific Chick Tract to see why some people don’t consider us Christians. Then, if you’re still itchin’ for self-punishment, go read one of Rebecca Brown’s schitzo books. Any one of them contains at least a chapter on why Catholics are all possessed by multitudes of demons. Then run a quick search on Google under any of the following: “Is the Catholic Church the anti-Christ?”, “Catholics worship Mary”, or, my favorite, “Babylon Mystery Religion”.

Point is, threads like this are just a big hook for some poor schlub to take the bait and show us how uninformed he really is about the Church. Then everyone will jump on him, he’ll lash back, and nothing good will come of it. People who respond in earnest to this line of questioning don’t want to be convinced about the Truth, and I halfway suspect that people who start threads like this are kinda sorta just looking for some conflama.

I have googled, the first two relate the Catholics but the last one"Babylon Mystery Religion", I don’t find it relating Catholics. Do you have some specific link in your mind?

I am an Ahmadi peaceful Muslim. I do make inter-faith or inter-religious study and my tool is discussion in the forums. I give no weight to the sources of a religion or faith which are anti that religion or faith. Like this is a Catholic forum, though I study here posts of the Catholics and Non-Catholic but I would never, as far as I can, go to some anti-Catholic website and be influenced by their material. Sometimes, this happens unintentionally. Someone suggested here:

I saw a quote while surfing which stuck into my mind, sorry for that, but I would like that my Catholic friends here write about its being genuine or otherwise:

Catholics don’t worship Mary.

If asking her to pray for us is worship (which it’s not), then whenever one asks another to pray for them who is not Catholic themselves, they are guilty of worshipping the person that they ask to pray for them.

Mary is venerated (as Muslims venerate her).

She is, the first Christian Believer.

She is hated by Satan and by Anti-Catholics (that’s just one of the things that anti-Catholics share with Satan, the others being jealousy, envy, wrath and animosity towards anyone who is loving and sharing in Christ).

And one more thing, it is The Scriptures that tell us that Mary is our mother:

Revelations 12:17
“And the dragon was wroth with the woman,
and went to make war with the remnant of her seed,
which keep the commandments of God,
and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

Paarsurey, as for the “Babylon Mystery Religion”, it was a book by a man named Woodrow, which basically asserted that Catholicism was nothing more than ancient Babylonian pagan worship in disguise. Years later, Mr. Woodrow realized the gross error in his research, and recanted the theories put forth in his book, which you can read here: ralphwoodrow.org/books/pages/babylon-mystery.html

Mr. Chick also likes to use the “Catholics worship ancient Egyptian/Babylonian idols” sometimes, too.

I just get such a kick out of them.

I put my laptop on full screen and watch them talk and espouse their stuff. My stomach hurts I laugh so hard!
 
You could say the same thing right back to Protestants.

You could say the Protestant churches are not Christian.

Why because they don’t follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. They follow their own teachings based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Try to argue this.
