Why is everybody an expert?

And, do they have the right to criticize?

I run into non-Catholics Protestants all the time, who criticize Catholicism and have all sorts of opinions on Christian beliefs and why the Catholic Church is wrong about this or that… and yet, these same people, seldom, if ever… attend any church and do not themselves, behave like Christians.

Additionally, many of those who complain about, what is “wrong” with Catholicism, know little or nothing about Catholic beliefs.

Now, what’s up with that?

Since I’m not one of those you are discussing  , I’ll just respond by saying welcome back, Brother in Christ, I missed you.

God does not want a religion with you, He wants a relationship. I do not care what religion you belong to, the only way we can have a relationship with God is through His Son Jesus Christ and the words He gave us in the Holy Bible. Jhn 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

God is awesome my friend. No one will go to hell unloved John 3:16 tells us that. its a free gift all you have to do is receive it.
Jhn 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: How can you recive this Free Gift

We all know we are sinners the bible tells us that,

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Rom 10:11** For the scripture saith**, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Rom 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The answer may be found in Chesterton’s “The English Anti-Catholic Tradition.” It’s a tradition like the Catholic tradition, except it’s truly extra-Biblical. 😃

When did God say he wants a relationship and not a religion, Fisher? Why don’t you stick to the words Jesus Christ gave us in the Holy Bible?

Great Thread!

Personally, I believe ignorance is satan’s greatest tool. I just wish people would take the time to do some research before they make comments.

It is amazing how so many can disagree with the Church when catholics are doing the same things, the same way 2000 years later. Is that not what Jesus promised? Catholics have some of the most learned authorities on the Bible and Tradition, our priests are in seminary for 9+ years just to be able to pass along the knowledge of faith to us and the Church’s utmost concern is and always has been passing along that faith exactly the way Jesus taught the Apostles. That is why I have no doubt that my home is in Jesus with His Church.

I know there are arguments against what I’ve just said, but you know what?

Some things are true whether you believe them or not.

Peace and the Love of Jesus Christ be with all of you.

Hi,

What you say is true. In my neck of the woods, south central kentucky Catholics like myself are a minority.
When they were building a new Catholic church in a small town east of me a few years ago, the construction site was vandalized and there was some anti-catholic graffitti spray painted.
I think in a nutshell it boils down to ingnorance. Explaining the Catholic faith to many is difficult at best.
As far as non Catholics having a right to critisize, well I guess they have a right. Free speech etc.
Its come a long way though, 30 years ago some people in my area truly believed that Nuns wore habits to mask their horns.

Doc,
I hope you don’t view those that vandalized your new sanctuary as commonplace in noncatholic traditions. And I 'm sorry and angry that alleged Christians would treat you that way.

God bless,
Jon

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them,** I never knew you**: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Jhn 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

Jhn 10:5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. **
Jhn 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and
know my [sheep], and am known of mine. **
Jhn 10:15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Jhn 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

well whats a relationship then?

here is what paul said about his religion…

Phl 3:5 **Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, [of] the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; ** (Wow cant get more religious then that)

Phl 3:6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

Phl 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Phl 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things [but] loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them [but] dung, that I may win Christ,

Phl 3:9 And be found in him, **not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: **

Paul was the hebrew of hebrews the most religious man he killed for his religion.(count them all dung)

read the O.T. first before repeating such a thoughtless line"God doesn’t want religion…".which religion one belongs to makes no difference, yeah right,.so those who call catholics whore’s children are just as good in God’s eyes as catholics, dream on,dream on…Christ gave us the bible, huh?more like the Body of Christ (the Holy Catholic Church)gave us the bible.Christ made no demand to write a thing down or inspired any wrtings.Any inspired writings were done by the beckoning of the Holy Spirit.
I don’t need a book to tell me i am a sinner the Holy Spirit does that quite well…
the rest of your quotes do nothing to prove your dream…

I think it can be good, that people find things they think/believe are wrong with the catholic church. Just like my husband did.

He told me last night, HE was wrong.
He told me the Church may just be right after all.

I never shut him down when he expressed himself. I simply prayed, offered up my daily work, all my pain, and went to mass as often as I could go.

He is going to be a catholic too now.

I can shed some light on the virulent anti-CAtholicism among Protestants, because I used to be one. When I say I was anti-CAtholic, I mean I was of the Jack Chick variety of anti-Catholic. The truth of the matter is quite simple. There is no dark anti-Catholic conspiracy. Truth be told, evangelicals are conditioned to turn off the part of their brain that raises questions. They take everything their pastor says at face value, never questioning because he has a “Dr.” in fromt of his name, not even taking into account his “docterate” is from Billy Bobs Evangelical Non-Acreddited College. I accepted Sola Scriptura without question, and to question it would have brought sharp rebuttal. Their claims of the “Catholic Church is wrong” is defended by proof texts taken out of context. In my years as an evangelical, I do not recall ever hearing a sermon on the verse that describes the Church as the source of all truth. Why? It goes against Sola Scriptura. SO I cahlak these attitudes to ignorance. I used to be one of those ignorant souls, and to be honest, I have learned about the Scripturesmore in my 9 months as a Catholic than I did in 15 years as a Protestant. Granted I memorized more, but it took my conversion to CAtholicism to really LEARN it.

👍 good post sorry i took a lot of it out…and when a different pastor arrives the people just follow along with what ever he/she says even if if it is opposite what the previous one told them…
your last sentence sums things up nicely…

I am curious, what do you think is the root cause of virulent anti catholicism?
I have non catholic friends that I would say are just not meant to be catholics yet. But, not virulent anti-catholics really. And no Jack Chick types really.
I have more friends outside of that circle I recently met, that are christian in the Lutheran church however. The catholics in my parish, are not very friendly even though I am as involved as I can be under the circumstances. At the Lutheran Church I went to (now 5 times) they are very friendly and caring. I even had my child go to their christmas sale fundraiser as a helper with one friend she made there. I donated 22 dozen cookies.

If i were to hazard a guess, it would be misinformation. The lie cloaked in partial truth can be an extremely powerful tool. As far as being “unfriendly” what do you mean? In my parish, we do not view the sanctuary as a place for idle chit-chat. It is a holy place, and we are in the presence of Christ. However the Parish Festival shows how friendly these people really are. Sometimes it takes a retreat, festival or other social gathering to really find out. We just dont do alot of socializing after Mass in the sanctuary.

Same as those who think they know all there is to know about real Christianity. And when they disagree with you, you make the assumption they dont know about Catholic beliefs. Hope that answers your question.

Jimmy,

Just in case I haven’t let you in on the secret, here it is:

The Catholic Church is the big dog on the porch. Everyone takes a shot: evangelicals, fundamentalists, Muslims of every stripe, communists, Orthodox, Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, atheists, Hindus, agnostics,
even Catholics.

Tells ya something, don’t it?
