If i were to hazard a guess, it would be misinformation. The lie cloaked in partial truth can be an extremely powerful tool. As far as being “unfriendly” what do you mean? In my parish, we do not view the sanctuary as a place for idle chit-chat. It is a holy place, and we are in the presence of Christ. However the Parish Festival shows how friendly these people really are. Sometimes it takes a retreat, festival or other social gathering to really find out. We just dont do alot of socializing after Mass in the sanctuary.
I sent my child to catholic school. I understand the Mass is not a social event.
I am involved in all the fundraisers, and volunteer for just about everything. They still are cold to me.🤷
Not so with the Lutherans.

Is this by chance a German community?

Once while bicycling across the USA I stopped one Sunday in a little community in Wisconsin. After mass one lady explained to me that they were Germans and while there would not be a lot of hugging and kissing they would feed me well. Those were some of the best doughnuts/pastries I have eaten after mass. Of course 15 to 20 miles of pedaling helps one’s appetite.

One other thought, is it a small community? Also, how long have you been there?

Small communities tend to be closed and tight. Given time, if you are the light of Christ you will affect the people positively.

As my mother once told me, “You can say ‘hello’ to people, but that does not mean they will respond.” I was puzzled by the lack of friendliness in some people.

God bless

p.s. I know some pretty uptight Lutherans 😉

Why is everybody an expert?

And, do they have the right to criticize?

I run into non-Catholics Protestants all the time, who criticize Catholicism and have all sorts of opinions on Christian beliefs and why the Catholic Church is wrong about this or that… and yet, these same people, seldom, if ever… attend any church and do not themselves, behave like Christians.

Additionally, many of those who complain about, what is “wrong” with Catholicism, know little or nothing about Catholic beliefs.

Now, what’s up with that?
Same old lame argument about why Catholicism has its opponents. Do Catholics have the right to criticize others? Just more of the same. I expect nothing different on this subject.

I met them too. But, I never will know what they would be like, if they knew I was watching their child for X hours a week…🤷
Maybe they would melt a bit knowing that?
I have no idea. I just think they are much kinder in general.
That does not mean I like their theology as much.

I am a Christian, first and foremost. I belong to the Roman Catholic Church and attend mass frequently with my wife and child. I study the Bible and I also study the traditions, and the history of the Christian Church. I have attended studies at several different denominations of the Christian Church, and I have been to some churches that claim that their foundation is Christ, but discovered that to be falsebecause they refuse to worship Christ. I consider the Roman Catolic Church to be the largest and one of the oldest denominations of Christianity. I beleive that all the different denomination have some Truth in them, and some errors. I think that the Roman Catholic Church can enrich the Christian community tremendously. I don’t think “The Catholic Church is wrong” on every issue, but not correct on some. People who grow up strictly Roman Catholic or strictly Protestant are both conditioned to be at odds with each other. I personally think that this is terrible for Christianity. Paul even points this out to the early Christians in 1 Corinthians when he admonished them for separating with one saying that they follow Paul, another saying that they follow Cephas, and another saying that they follow Apollos. In 3 John, John mention Diotrephes who was not acknowleding John and his messengers and even expelling them from the Church. John said that he was also spreading evil nonsense.Christians,as slaves to Christ, are supposed to be able to teach and correct opponents in love with gentleness and kindness, and we’re not supposed to stir up senseless disputes.

Could you help me out and clue me into what the dangers are?

I’m one of those that has been critical of the Catholicism in the past (still some lingering BVM issues). For me its it’s come down to not wanting my beliefs challenged. Its easier to sit back, criticize and stereotype Catholicism than to put forth some mental effort (with prayer) to find out if what the CC teaches is true. At first it was kind of like an anguish to admit some of my beliefs were just wrong and the CC was right. After hanging out at CAF for a while it’s gotten a little easier.

Why do Catholics judge me?

Who gives them the right to judge?

I run into Catholics all the time who tell me I am going to hell, or that I am not a “whole” or “pure” Christian.

Now, what’s up with that?

I am not sure that catholics have the right to criticize others, but since the It of from the Catholic church that all other come from, either directly or indirectly, The Catholic Church has a responsibility to point oiut the errors of the others.

I would hope and pray that no Catholic/Christian would ever tell another person that they are going to hell. I do not know the mind of God nor the heart of anyone else. The church will declare a saint as It can pretty much know who is in heaven. but to my knowledge has never declared that anyone other than Satan is in hell as we just do not know.
As for being a whole or pure Christian when you choose to belong to an organization that is not part of the One Holy and Apostolic Church that was come to us over the last 2000 years then you are cheating your self from the fullness of what Christ gave us.

Hi,

What you say is true. In my neck of the woods, south central kentucky Catholics like myself are a minority.
When they were building a new Catholic church in a small town east of me a few years ago, the construction site was vandalized and there was some anti-catholic graffitti spray painted.
I think in a nutshell it boils down to ingnorance. Explaining the Catholic faith to many is difficult at best.
As far as non Catholics having a right to critisize, well I guess they have a right. Free speech etc.
Its come a long way though, 30 years ago some people in my area truly believed that Nuns wore habits to mask their horns.
If they meet you with bigotry, espcially from the ignorant, rejoice! Even a scientific mind like Einstein says:
“If a great idea is not considered absurd at the start, there is little hope for it”.

read the O.T. first before repeating such a thoughtless line"God doesn’t want religion…".which religion one belongs to makes no difference, yeah right,.so those who call catholics whore’s children are just as good in God’s eyes as catholics, dream on,dream on…Christ gave us the bible, huh?more like the Body of Christ (the Holy Catholic Church)gave us the bible.Christ made no demand to write a thing down or inspired any wrtings.Any inspired writings were done by the beckoning of the Holy Spirit.
I don’t need a book to tell me i am a sinner the Holy Spirit does that quite well…
the rest of your quotes do nothing to prove your dream…
I never said it does not matter what which religion you belong to. What I am saying is you can go to a church pray do good works get baptized ect. and still burn in hell for all eternity. because you were never saved. If you read what Jesus said in Mat 7:21 -22 -23
I would not worry about what other people do or say I would just do what God wants and care what God has to say.

Christ gave us the bible? Is Christ part of the God head well then He did. The catholic church burned the bible and the people that tried to give us a bible in the English language this is history.

I do not Hate Catholics I just do not believe there doctrine. I love all people with Gods love that is in side me. As a Christian, God commands me to tell people about His Son finished work on that hill on Golgotha, now the choice is yours.

In Him

God gave us inspired Scripture… The Catholic Church gave us the Bible (that’s history!)… Do you know why they burned some of them?

I disagree. You hate the Catholic Church. Your “I don’t hate Catholics” is a line I have heard all to often to cloak lies. THe Roman Catholic Church did not burn English Bibles. In fact the Douay-Rheims CAtholic Bible predates the KJV. Our doctrine is grounded in the scripture, sometimes explicitly, sometimes implied. THe Catholic Church is right in expecting people to follow through. After all, “faith without works is dead.”
Reead your Bible. Papal authority, confession, anointing of the sick, religious orders, the Real Presence. Its all there. Of course to find them, you will actually have to consider the literary and historical context. For example don’t stop sat John 3:16. Finish the chapter. Jesus said repeatedly to DO. Not just BELIEVE.

Correction: The order came from Henry VIII, who caused the separation of Church of England from Rome.

Why should we expect Protestants to know the Truth of Catholicism when we allow Catholics not to know the faith or Church History?

If we could get the #*@# Catholics to learn the faith, the Protestants would have more access to knowledgable Catholics, giving us more knowledgeable Protestants. We should start with Politicians who attend Catholic Churches at least once every two years, at election time and work our way up.

The doing comes after the believing not doing then the believing that’s what James is talking about. Mat 7 21-23 they did all good things he said I never knew you.The house must be built on the rock If you believe that the rock is a religious organization then God will say to you at the judgement seat well done. If your wrong and the rock is** Jesus then your in a lot of trouble.
The question I would ask my self is what and who am I trusting in? Rom 3:4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
We can go down rabbit trails all day but what it all comes down to is where are you going to
spend eternity**?

God is clear who the “rock” is!

1 Samuel 2
2:2
"No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, **Nor is there any rock like our God. **

2 Samuel 22
22:2
And he said: F49 "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;

2 Samuel 22
22:32
"For who is God, except the Lord? **And who is a rock, except our God? **

Psalms 18
18:2
**The Lord is my rock **and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Psalms 18
18:31
For who is God, except the Lord? **And who is a rock, except our God? **

Psalms 92
92:15
To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

I thought Jesus was the Rock as well?

And then he said Peter was the Rock?
