You’re both wrong. The Church was never meant to stay as it looked in the New Testament.
It grew - much like an acorn that grows into an oak.
Much like the mustard seed that grows into a very large plant and the birds come to nest in it.
Hmmmm, who said that?
Matthew 7:18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
This is a non-sequitur. What is being discussed is whether the Church was meant to be the same as it was when it was an infant (and not whether it is bearing good or bad fruit). As I have mentioned before, to expect the Church to remain that way is to want a Church whose growth has been retarded. You want a church that remains an infant throughout its life of 2000 years.
Why would anyone want the acorn when the tree is already here?
But to ride along with your reasoning here. We can therefore conclude that should really all become atheists or some other non-christian religion considering that there is not one single Christian denomination that has been spared from sinfull members.
Another problem with you statement is that you are assuming that the fruit that the tree is supposed to bear is right conduct. This is only half right because first and foremost, the fruit is supposed to be Truth, from whence follow right conduct.
