Those DVDs are absolutely beautiful! I couldn’t get over how very lovely the picture was, it’s so clear. Thanks for sharing 👍

Pax vobiscum!

I thought it was interesting that there was a clip of priests in the traditional vestments and they had two altar girls. I wouldn’t have expected those two to go together.

In Christ,
Rand

I liked it until I saw the female altar boys wearing Cassocks and Surplices.:bigyikes:

Yea, what’s up with THAT?

So the Catholic Church is now promoting cross dressing??
I dont know but it is really weird:confused: . When you really think about it…its quite ridiculous to see a woman wearing such a thing. Its like bridesmaids wearing tuxedos.

They could have done without the female altar servers, but the producers thought some soccer moms would throw a fit.

The priest is entitled to use female altar servers if he wants, but put them in albs.

The cassock is the garb of a cleric and it’s no more appropriate on a girl as it would be to dress a boy in a nun’s habit.

The alb, at least, is for both sexes, the cassock is particular to males.

Gee, I wonder why there isn’t much talk about female altar servers on this message board?😃 😃

This thread will be hijacked in 3…2…1…

I know it. I cringe everytime I see them at the altar. Something in me just doesn’t seem right when I see female altar servers. Something odd. Maybe it is my Orthodox background???

If altar boys are preparing to be priests (why they get the cassock, normally reserved to priests), it should not be a ministry for women or girls, but reserved to men. This would not only remind & stimulate discussion of the Church’s infallible doctrine, but help encourage the various ministries that are also crucial and for all, or just women (e.g singing, reading, administering, visiting the Housebound) and of course the consecrated religious life.

Give me a* break*. I don’t like the idea of female altar servers either, but they are allowed. Put your fundamentalist absurdity aside and focus on Jesus, the center of the Mass. You’re making the Mass about the servers, not Jesus, which is really a shame.

Regardless of what everyone’s views on female altar servers is, they are currently allowed, and we should all be pleased that there is such a beautifully crafted and well-produced DVD like this out there to represent the Church. It is a great resource and we should be encouraging these people. I might also add that the producer of the video has posted on this board in another thread and has answered numerous questions about the project personally.

They are currently considering a similar video for the TLM, if that makes anyone feel better!

THe thread is about a video of the Mass. I agree the video appears to be pretty ( I only watched it until I saw the girls in cassocks). With that in mind My comments were directed towards the video. I quit watching the video when I saw the cross dressing. My coments about female altar servers was on topic because I was addressing the poor choice of the videographer and church to dress girls cassocks and surplices which is the garmet of the male priesthood. I will be the first to admit that bias shaped by personal experiences in the past being an altar BOY comes into play when watching the video. It was a pretty church and well done video. But seeing a girls pony tale hang down over the back of a surplice made me realize how far the inroads of progressiveness has moved into our church. Otherwise It appeared to be a great video. ( Since I am a hobbiest videographer I will likely watch the piece again to personally critique the video and its style of delivery)

Give you a break? Fundamenalist absurdity? Come on. That’s not at all what I was doing.

This does seem a great video, with just a minor failing. Plus it was odd to see Roman chasubles with female altar servers.

To the other poster who mentioned that the Holy See allows girls to serve, you are absolutely right. That should be our first point for such a discussion.

Yeah I quit watching near the beginning too. I have no problem with females serving mass (I was one once upon a time), but I do have a problem with the American flag in the sanctuary. I thought this movie was about Catholic worship.

Keep the flag on a flagpole, in the classroom, on a postage stamp, and on our military uniforms. Let’s let the tabernacle remind us that in church we celebrate the coming of the kingdom of God.
