I remember that members Knights and Dames of the Holy Sepluchre (officially the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem) came to Our Lady of the Atonement Church for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross the year before last. They were fully dressed in their garments.

Here is their website for their U.S. lieutenancy:

The Cardinal Grand Master is appointed by the Holy Father. Each national group (lieutenancy) is headed by a Lieutenant, according to the website.

It is intriguing that the head of that order is a cardinal or sometimes the Pope.

I am new to the form and am intrestred in the knights of malta, how does one find a local chapter to and inquire about membership.

Many of these orders will require you to be a member of the aristocracy or nobility. You describe your location as the Big Apple, so I will assume that you are a commoner. Perhaps you should found your own organization.
There are a surprising number of ‘von’ s and ‘de’ s in the Metropolitan area.

Hello to all,

My name is Richard and I am a new member to this forum. I am a senior economist in Canada. My research interests, broadly speaking, are in socio-economic development and more precisely on issues pertaining to human and child development. I am also a Roman Catholic. Recently, I attented a conference in Paris on humanitarian aid organized by the Order of Malta and the French government and I have to say that it was one of the best session I attended. As a researcher, I have seen the knowldege brought by the (name removed by moderator) in the field of international aid and the seriousness of their actions. I was very impressed by the “calibre” of all presenters and the debates were fascinating.

I am not a member of (name removed by moderator) but at this juncture in my life I would surely consider it if the opportunity knocked at my door. I don’t know if the people I met perfectly reflect (name removed by moderator) membership but the European crowd was quite impressive. From an outsider perspective, (name removed by moderator) looks like an organization that is super active in charity work for the sick and the poor. These fileds are of interests to me personally and professionally. A head of (name removed by moderator) Germany told me that the American associations are extremely active. A quick browsing on their website seems to confirm that fact. (name removed by moderator) is also well rooted in France and Germany. In Canada, the organization seems to be more humble in scale and scope, which I find sad in a way because I can see the enormous potential for such an organization. Re-fees: of true, these fees are very small if you compare to other types of memberships in other organizations and clubs whihc don’t even have the same appeal and reach that (name removed by moderator) has.

Sorry to change the subject, what would a Catholic Military Order look like if a couple, or all of them, survived to our post-modern age?

What sort of weaponry would they possess, are they just infantry based or would they’ve have a Navy or Air Force?

If Italy became one big Papal State and some (if not a majority) of Europe stayed or returned to Catholicism, would they have the same kind of military hardware and tactics as Europe and America today, or focus on something like Guerilla Warfare, or maybe something entirely different.

Just thought I ask.

Funny though, I never thought of myself as a “commoner” as somebody else thought I was. As a matter of fact, the term alone sounds very un-American… 🤷
Some of us like to think that the term “middle class” is used by American elites to convince the commoners that we are not on the bottom of the pecking order. After looking at the financial difference between the “upper class” and “middle class,” the difference between the latter and “lower class” is unrecognizable. “Middle class” is an illusion to the fact that we are still working (peasant) class supporting the top economic players. I agree with you fully. It is un-American, but that is how our market economy has developed.

The popular American dream is to be rich, which is not at all wholesome, or Christian.
He who is least is most. Right? I’m okay with being a peasant.
