What is the Catholic view on equality (that is, from a moral standpoint)?

I don’t think that Catholicism views equality as something inherently moral, but rather equality is sometimes needed according to circumstance and incomes should be “more equalized” but not even then necessarily completely equalized.

If anything I’ve always seen a more marked appreciation of inequality in religion.

Am I right?

Every human being is equal in dignity.

Many would have us think that “equality” equals “sameness” but that isn’t the case. For example, while men and women are equal in dignity before God, they are not at all the same. Not physically, emotionally, intellectually, or spiritually. They are quite different.

With regard to personal status in our world, it really doesn’t matter that much in the long term. We all eventually end up in heaven or hell, forever. Period.

It just occurred to me, what does dignity mean? I think that the Church means to say that we all have equal potential towards goodness and heaven but it can’t possibly mean that everyone is equally good. It also might not mean that people are equally deserving of good since God’s grace which is the cause of merit is in different people in different degrees. It might also mean that everyone has equal dignity in that God always wills some good to everyone.

Dignity means: the quality of being worthy of esteem or respect

I’d take this to mean that all peoples are equally created in God’s image, and should be respected as such. All humans deserve equal respect regardless of sex, age, race, religion, ect…simply by virtue that they are all equally human. We are all equally worthy of respect.
