Exactly. I am a big Star Wars fan, and the morality of the series - especially that of the original trilogy - is certainly something Christians should applaud, but Star Wars is actually more Taoist than anything else. In fact, the philosophy in the original trilogy is, in my opinion, remarkably consistent. I feel that it gets messed up a lot by dumb cliches in the prequel trilogy - the best example of this is that line, “Only a Sith deals in absolutes,” which simply makes no sense whatsoever. The writing in Episode III (and Episode II, for that matter) is generally terrible, in my opinion.
That having been said, there is definitely some interesting Taoist philosophy in the movies. The morality is completely consistent with Christianity (especially in the original trilogy), but other than that, the worldview isn’t specifically Christian (of course, it is in
no way
anti-Christian either).
Actually, they came out with a Star Wars computer game a few years ago called
Knights of the Old Republic. Along with its sequel,
Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, through its brilliant storyline (far superior to the actual movies, in my opinion) it actually
Christian-izes the philosophy of the Star Wars universe.
