Like other Guardians, I sometimes wonder what the cats are up to when I am sleep or out of the apartment. But I do know that when the sun shines into the east or west facing windows of this apartment, that is where the cats will be. I have set up heated pads in the windows, of course, so the cats get heat on the stomachs and back at the same time. And look as if they are in cat heaven.

This year, The Solemnity of the Annunciation was moved from 25 March to 31 March. This seems to be a good time to once again bring out the LITTLE OFFICE of the BVM. I do not recite the Little Office every week, so as to avoid boredom, but do so on those special weeks with a Marian Solemnity to celebrate.

Today I have the time to do not only Morning and Evening Prayer, but the Office of Readings, Daytime Prayer, and Night Prayer. Tomorrow I will recite the Thanksgiving for Mary’s Fiat. And of course Morning and Evening Prayer Monday through Saturday.

I use the 1988 edition published by the Catholic Book Publishing Company.

unless of course the cats decide to park it right on top of your little book

Praying with your cats is a good thing, but I much prefer praying with my birds. They are much more attentive and less prone to wandering off to see if my mom will give them tuna.

Of course, my cat will jump up on my bed and attempt to play with my birds, who sit on my shoulders when I’m praying. The birds, not having grown up around cats, assume that the cat wants to snack on them so I have to chase the cat out of the room. The cat, having been raised around birds since he was a tiny kitten, (he’s not quite six months old, still a kitty) has no clue that most of the feline race would consider his co-pets to be hors d’ouvres.

One of these days, he’s going to get a sharp bite on his little pink nose or paw.

I never fail to be amazed at how much my cat loves to be around when I am praying…She shows up, climbs in my lap, & purrs up a storm…
