What exactly is the root cause of selfishness? Why are some people selfish and others not? I am a very selfish person, yet I really don’t know why. Is it something learned or more like a built in trait?

I think it’s the avoidance of pain. We keep more things for ourselves to keep ourselves comfortable.

It seems we all have a tendancy toward selfishness, some more than others, but we also can be taught to be more or less selfish.
Ultimately, the Holy Spirit is the only one who can cure us of this.

why are some people alcoholics? why are some people overweight? why are we anything that exhibits lack of self-control in some area of our lives? it’s human nature to have weaknesses.
the bigger question i guess is finding the strength to overcome those weaknesses. we have free will to follow our own will or God’s will. making the choice to become strong and exhibit self-control is the difficult part.
