Dear friends,

The Lord Jesus been so good to me in teaching me about Mary, the channel of His Infinite Mercy.

How has Jesus touched you, in Mary?

St. Maximilian Kolbe said that no matter what we have done, all we need to do is turn to the Immaculate Mary, and let her carry us and lead us.

St. Gertrude had a vision in which she saw Mary welcoming wild beasts under her cloak and caressing them with the greatest tenderness. This hits home in my life.

Vatican II affirmed that Mary is our “mother in the order of grace”. That idea is pregnant with all of God’s Mercy. Here is a beautiful passage from Pope Leo XIII about Mary’s role as our Mother in the order of grace (Vatican II):

"Thus as no man goeth to the Father but by the Son, so no man goeth to Christ but by His Mother. How great are the goodness and mercy revealed in this design of God! What a correspondence with the frailty of man! We believe in the infinite goodness of the Most High, and we rejoice in it; we believe also in His justice and we fear it. We adore the beloved Saviour, lavish of His blood and of His life; we dread the inexorable Judge. Thus do those whose actions have disturbed their consciences need an intercessor mighty in favour with God, merciful enough not to reject the cause of the desperate, merciful enough to lift up again towards hope in the divine mercy the afflicted and the broken down. Mary is this glorious intermediary; she is the mighty Mother of the Almighty; but-what is still sweeter - she is gentle, extreme in tenderness, of a limitless loving-kindness. As such God gave her to us. Having chosen her for the Mother of His only begotten Son, He taught her all a mother’s feeling that breathes nothing but pardon and love.…

… Nothing is more natural, nothing more desirable than to seek a refuge in the protection and in the loyalty of her to whom we may confess our designs and our actions, our innocence and our repentance, our torments and our joys, our prayers and our desires - all our affairs. All men, moreover, are filled with the hope and confidence that petitions which might be received with less favour from the lips of unworthy men, God will accept when they are recommended by the most Holy Mother, and will grant with all favours. The truth and the sweetness of these thoughts bring to the soul an unspeakable comfort

August Queen of Heaven, sovereign Mistress of the Angels, who didst receive from the beginning the mission and the power to crush the serpent’s head, we beseech thee to send thy holy angels, that under thy command and by thy power, they may pursue the evil spirits, encounter them on every side, resist their bold attacks, and drive them hence into the abyss of woe.

Most holy Mother, send thy angels to defend us and to drive the cruel enemy from us.

That’s beautiful, Lovinglight. To quote Pope Leo XIII roughly “Mary is the Mother of God. In virtue of a dignity so sublime, what graces may we not promise to ourselves through her intercession?”

Here is the exact quotaton from the Encyclical Iucunda Semper:

". Nor can our prayers fail to ascend to Him as a sweet savour, commended by the prayers of the Virgin. And He it is who, all-benign, invites her: “Let thy voice sound in My ears, for thy voice is sweet.” For this cause do we repeatedly celebrate those glorious titles of her ministry as Mediatrix. Her do we greet who found favour with God, and who was in a signal manner filled with grace by Him so that the superabundance thereof might overflow upon all men; her, united with the Lord by the most intimate of all conjunction; her who was blessed among women, and who “alone took away the curse and bore the blessing” (St. Thomas)-that fruit of her womb, that happy fruit, in which all the nations of the earth are blessed. Her do we invoke, finally, as Mother of God; and in virtue of a dignity so sublime what graces from her may we not promise to ourselves, sinners, in life and in the agonies of the end?

  1. There is not and there will never be, either in God’s creation or in his mind, a creature in whom he is
    so honoured as in the most Blessed Virgin Mary, not excepting even the saints, the cherubim or the highest
    seraphim in heaven.
    Mary is God’s garden of Paradise23, his own unspeakable world, into which his Son entered to do
    wonderful things, to tend it and to take his delight in it. He created a world for the wayfarer, that is, the one
    we are living in. He created a second world - Paradise - for the Blessed. He created a third for himself,
    which he named Mary. She is a world unknown to most mortals here on earth. Even the angels and saints in
    heaven find her incomprehensible, and are lost in admiration of a God who is so exalted and so far above
    them, so distant from them, and so enclosed in Mary, his chosen world, that they exclaim: “Holy, holy,
    holy” unceasingly24.
  2. Happy, indeed sublimely happy, is the person to whom the Holy Spirit reveals the secret25 of Mary,
    thus imparting to him true knowledge of her. Happy the person to whom the Holy Spirit opens this enclosed
    garden26 for him to enter, and to whom the Holy Spirit gives access to this sealed fountain where he can
    draw water and drink deep draughts of the living waters of grace. That person will find only grace and no
    creature in the most lovable Virgin Mary. But he will find that the infinitely holy and exalted God is at the
    same time infinitely solicitous for him and understands his weaknesses. Since God is everywhere, he can be
    found everywhere, even in hell. But there is no place where God can be more present to his creature and
    more sympathetic to human weakness than in Mary. It was indeed for this very purpose that he came down
    from heaven. Everywhere else he is the Bread of the strong and the Bread of angels, but living in Mary he is
    the Bread of children27.

Thank you hazcompat. I love that quotation. It’s one of my very favorite quotations about Mary, expressing how God gives us mercy through her and in her. I haven’t read the Secret of Mary, but only True Devotion to Mary, which is wonderful.
 
Thanks so much, hazcompat. I love St. Louis DeMontfort’s teachings, along with those of St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Alphonsus Liguori, St. Bonaventure, etc.

I had no idea what I was missing until I started reading them. They comforted me so much. I finally started developing a personal relationship with our Mother, the channel of Infinite Mercy.
