The Chaplet of the Divine Mercy

I’ve listening to the Chaplet for quite sometime , ~ what do other Catholics think about it ?
 
I’ve been praying it just about every day now for a while—we NEED Divine Mercy.
 
I personally pray the Chaplet on occasion- though I doubt the apparitions of Sr. Faustina. Either some parts were of her diary were forged or misunderstood, but there are definite unorthodoxies. I personally pray the Chaplet because it is a beautiful prayer that can stand on its own, and not because I am devoted to the message of Sr. Faustina. I also keep the Divine Mercy picture in my home, again, because of the beauty of its symbolism, not the message itself. I encourage anyone who prays the Chaplet to also pray the Holy Rosary, which we know is by itself a most powerful weapon.

I don’t think there are ‘unorthodoxies’ cause the Church has accepted the book and doesn’t find anything wrong in it… 🙂

btw I love the Divine Mercy chaplet and devotion 🙂
I have the picture in my room too.

She is a Saint. Pope John Paul II canonized her several years ago. And her diaries are accepted by the Church, so there’s nothing “unorthodox” about them.

I’m actually reading through them right now. They’re wonderful. They’ve really opened my eyes to God’s mercy and how much He loves mankind. Reading her diaries has been a remarkable experience so far and I’m looking forward to reading even more.

Beautiful Prayer. Doubly Beautiful when sung. Thats only my opinion.
 
EWTN plays a sung version—my local station has a spoken one. I like both.

Hi, I am not EnchantedEve, but I also doubt Sr. Faustina’s visions. Personally, I wonder why Mary stressed the importance of the rosary at Fatima, to then have Jesus appear and encourage another devotion (shortly after) also said on rosary beads. Some think her visions were demonic, because the perfect way to get people to stop saying rosaries, was for the devil to give another prayer instead. I don’t know if that is true, but what is true is that some (not all, mind you) are replacing their daily rosaries with a divine mercy chaplet instead. I used to say the chaplet, until I read more about Faustina, and some of her diary. I was left with the impression that she may have been mentally ill, and not seeing Jesus at all. Even the priests and nuns who knew her thought she was unbalanced, I think their opinions are credible given that they knew her personally, saw her daily and observed her behavior. I choose not to say the chaplet until I am convinced the words are truly from Jesus, and besides I am not required to say it, it is from a private revelation. Something in her diary really bothered me she said Jesus had her suffer horrible pain for all the abortions that would happen in the future, I refuse to believe Jesus would have someone suffer for a sin that is not theirs. Also if she took all the punishment for all the abortions, that means if you have one you will not be punished. To me that is a dangerous claim. Please, I am not trying to offend anyone, continue to say the chaplet, if that is your choice. I am writing this because you wondered why someone might doubt the chaplet’s validity. I think the words of it are beautiful, but because of it’s source I find saying it too troubling.
 
Yeah–all of which ignores the fact that Faustina is a saint and that many people pray both the Rosary and Divine Mercy.

Or do you think we don’t NEED God’s mercy?

🙂 OK, a few things…
  1. The credibility of most seers and many saints in general have been doubted by their contemporaries. So I don’t see that as an indication that the visions were demonic or hallucinations or otherwise contrived in any way.
  2. That Jesus would have her suffer for the sins of abortions is in keeping with the concept of the victim soul, which is an accepted aspect of Catholic spirituality.
  3. The Chaplet isn’t meant to take away from the Rosary any more than the Franciscans are meant to take away from the Dominicans or the Carmelites. There’s room for both Rosary and Chaplets. It’s a big Church we have.
  4. I have read her Diary. I think she was completely humble, and obedient to her state in life. She was willing to suffer and not wishing to call any attention to herself. These are the signs of a true mystic.
  5. As others have pointed out, she’s been canonized. Her writings are accepted as private revelations. The Church doesn’t do this casually. A very serious investigation goes into such matters before being declared.

Define “God’s Mercy” for me please. Did I ever say God’s mercy is not needed? It is shameful for you to think that belief in Faustina and recitation of the Divine Mercy chaplet is the ONLY way to receive it.

Actually, at the time the diary was written, some things in it, did go against the Church’s teaching. Most notably the host flying into her hands three times. At that time the Church only allowed the host to be administered onto the tongue. That of course has changed, which could be why her diary is so widely accepted. She told her Priest during confession, of the things Jesus wanted her to do and he told her that Jesus would never ask for such things. She is also visited by souls in purgatory, maybe I’m wrong, but I thought once you’re in purgatory there is no leaving until your soul is cleansed. I also wonder, if all the Saints who claimed to see hell, really did, then why aren’t their descriptions all the same?

The shame is yours for putting words in my mouth.
The Church has accepted Saint Faustina’s diary and visions.

That bothers me too. When people try to convert me they bring out how Saints like Faustina saw hell. But if you point out little problems with what they said, such as a part where she laments that had a soul been more pious it could have been a Saint as well as made it to Heaven (I thought being a Saint = being in Heaven) the response is PRIVATE REVELATION! DON’T GOT TO BELIEVE IT!

All these optional truths really bug me.

I think the key word there is OPTIONAL! People seem to forget that it is not required. Thank you for agreeing with me about some Saints visions of hell. I think the same as you, if you’re in heaven you’re a saint. I am always attacked for not believing in the Divine Mercy chaplet. There are lots of people on here that say if you are questioning or not believing in something it is the devil attacking you or influencing you. How ridiculous, God gave me a mind, forgive me for using it! Personally, I trust in Fatima, if anyone says something different than what Mary said at Fatima, I don’t believe it.
