The chasm widens but seldom bridges

Hi,

Sad to say that since Ive been on these forums and have learned alot about the CC–I find we are much further apart then I thought in our theology. It almost makes me wish I never came here.😦

Ignorance was truly bliss–now I am saddened by what I have learned and how far apart we are.😦
This is a good thing.

You now realize that your separation from the Catholic Church is a big deal…a huge chasm. This makes you sad. You feel uncomfortable. That is fantastic progress!

Previously, you had thought the differences were small…probably not worth trifling over. Now you know the wound to the Body of Christ is a gaping one.

If you did not know this, you would not be moved to repair it.

Praise God for your awakening!

And with all due respect language like "faulty theology from Protestants " doesnt help the atheists reading here. It only confirms that we are all whacked. 🙂
Well, how could I rephrase the terminology so that their faulty theology doesn’t come across as “chasm-widening” to those truly seeking the truth?

(Waves to the atheists out their thinking I’m whacked).

In all seriousness, it is difficult to translate one’s intent through written communication sometimes. Verbiage like “faulty theology” can certainly come across as an attack on Protestantism. In one sense, it is a indictment of my view of their beliefs - which is faulty and deviated from the true faith. How does one communicate that without people who don’t believe in God, or even fellow non-Catholic Christians thinking I’m whacked?

Is there any hope of serious dialogue?
a couple of years ago I watched a rather interesting thing happen. I was at the first CUF conference. Alone and I was sitting in the hotel resturant by myself. The place was packed and they were running out of places to sit people so I shared my table with a stranger who happened to be a protestant who was there for a chiropracter convertion. We got to talking I dont know what I said. We did not talk about anyting really deep. We did not get into apologetics. We talked about issues that were important to us. Things in the news. He gets up and tells me he never met a catholic like me and I changed his entire perspective on the religion. What did I say. I still dont know, but that is how God works. You plant seeds. Sometimes you dont even know what the seeds are. God does not alway give you the distenct prevliage of seeing that seed come to life. You were just there to plant the seed. It is Gods tree. dont worry so much that you dont appear to have done anything useful. What the other person thinks about what you said is not your concern. Be honest. Be charitable. Be an authentic person who sincerely cares and means everything they say. use every means possible to convert them and if necessary even use words.
