ALARM BELLS – ALARM BELLS – ALARM BELLS

TO ALL CHRISTIANS – WE HAVE TO BE UNITED AGAINST THE DEVIL! HEAR THIS!

There is a film version of the novel Angels and Demons by Dan Brown is being filmed in Rome. Director Ron Howard who also made the *Da Vinvi Code *with Tom Hanks (who according to American Chronicle, is becoming “the highest paid actor for a single film).

The writer of the article in the publication “Inside the Vatican” is a Canadian priest, Fr O’Connor who is an official with the Vatican’s Congregation for Eastern Churches. He mingled with the crew members (not dressed in his priestly garb) and managed to talk with them. One person who described himself as a “production official” disclosed, “The wretched Church is against us yet again and is making problems (not wanting to allow them to film inside Churches!) There are some of us who are friends with Dan Brown. Like most of us, he often says that he would do anything to demolish that detestable institution, the Catholic Church. Ant we will triumph. You will see”. When the priest asked for an explanation the response was, “Within a generation there will be no more Catholic Church, at least not in Western Europe. The media deserves to take much of the credit for its demise. “We see the same success now happening everywhere, even across N. America. The public is finally getting our message; the CC must be weakened and eventually it must disappear from the earth. It is humanity’s chief enemy. This has always been the case. Look at this pathetic Pope and his predecessor. Both have tried frantically to reverse the trend. But their efforts faced doom because we are too strong. And we have radio, TV, H-wood, the music and video industries, along with just about every newspaper which exists, all saying the same thing. It is more than any of us would have dared to hope just a few years back. It is a kind of revolution and the colleges and universities, as well as the young, are on our side too. Everywhere you turn the Church has become reduced to ruins. And ruins are all that should be left”. ………Inside the Vatican, August/September 2008.

Time for a Christian Crusade against the Devil. Any ideas?

These are the rantings of a fool.

Have no fear, Jesus promised to be with us until the end of time. Many have tried to ruin the Church, and all have failed.

I keep reminding myself of this. In the meantime so many souls are in danger.

Personally the idea of ‘crusade’ concerns me greatly. The Apostle teaches is “resist the devil, and he will flee from you”. We don’t have to go looking for him. He knows which is the true church, and therefore, the true church will always be under attack by him.

I think it is best if we start with outselves. If those who called themselves Catholics were behaving like Catholics, then films like this would not be getting made and published. We have our own house to clean up, and if we fail to do so, someone else will clean it for us, most likely in the media. Let us begin by finding the darkness within, catechizing our own people, families, and parishes. Catholics well equipped in their faith will not fall prey to these kinds of tactics.

i know there was a lot of controversy when The Da Vinci Code came out in book form and the movie version.

sometimes i think the more publicity we give these books the more attention people will pay to them.

dan brown does call himself a christian and that he writes thriller fiction for discussion and entertainment. i am not sure what type of christian he is. i don’t think he is Catholic.

whether he is anti-catholic i am not sure. those of us on this thread are well aware of our protestant friends who think we are going down the wrong road, so perhaps he follows their line of thinking. he looks like a reasonably nice fellow. i have never seen any interviews with him.

i have read two of his books and he has another one coming out about the freemasons. i look at them as pure entertainment.
i know what he is writing is fiction.

there are many myths out there about the roman catholic church
and the Church has been the center of many plots in many books
and films.

we need some authors out there who write positive stories about the catholic church.

there was an author who wrote a very popular series about an episcopal priest who lived in a small town. they have been read by many people.

so those of you out there with writing ability, we need some positive books out there about the good people who make up the Catholic church.

As usual you follow caution and wisdom. What I meant by crusade is a mobilization of Catholics to counter this pernicious attack on the Church. At the time I wrote the post my pulse was racing. How wicked these people are. The CC teaches us to be good, to follow Christ, not to sin and to do charitable acts of mercy (as do many other Christian churches). Dan Brown and his followers hate us for that very reason and you are correct they hate us for being the true Church. I worry about the many Catholics and other Christians you may be weak in Faith and who might go along.

I don’t agree with you 7 Sorrows that it is good entertainment. It is through “good entertainment” that these people GET to us. A Parish Priest said the same thing and we left that Parish. I have never read any of Dan Brown’s books - I can’t bring myself to do so.

I am not yet a very strong Catholic. As I learn more about the Faith the goal posts seem to go further and further away - the road seems longer. I love my Faith but feel smaller and smaller - we go to Mass every day and this sustains us but the more I learn the smaller I feel.

We just have to pray and live our Faith. I believe that in living our Faith others do take note that this is the right thing to do.

I guess the Catholic League will pounce on Dan Brown. I would like to see Catholics and other Christians come out en masse and ignore Dan Brown and his books and the films that are being made. I would like to see all Christians co-operate in censuring this evil man and boycotting these types of books and films. We have to fight the Media and show them we are not gullible and will not stand for their kind of “entertainment”.

That is what I mean by a crusade.
🙂

Very sound advice.

actually, cinette, i didn’t say it was good entertainment, i said it was pure entertainment. in fact, i cannot tell you right now what the book angels and demons is about because i read it 3 or 4 years ago and it obviously did not make much of an impression on me as i can’t even tell you the plot. and i didn’t think the movie the da vinci code was good entertainment. by saying i think it is pure entertainment, i mean that i don’t take his writing seriously. it was just a story to me.
you are right, though, i also worry about those that don’t know anything at all about the catholic church and believe only the rumors or myths they hear or those that did not get a good foundation in their faith and are weak. this man is a fiction writer.
he says he is christian. i wish i knew what denomination he is.
he quit his other career to devote full time to his writing, so i would say he knows what sells and writes around that.
i think the other author i was thinking of is jan karon who writes about a fictious town of mitford and the life of an episcopal priest and the connections with his parish in this little town. it was a very popular series and the books sold very well. so there is a market out there for wholesome stories about small town priests.
i think someone told me about a series of mysteries involving a catholic priest or monk back in the 14th century or sometime in that era. i can’t remember now his name or the author’s name.
are there any positive books or movies in the media about the catholic church? there was the song of bernadette. the bells of st. mary’s. a movie about boystown with spencer tracy. those are all american movies. i am sure there are more.

he says he is christian. He just CANNOT be Christian - what denomination would have such a man? i wish i knew what denomination he is.
he quit his other career to devote full time to his writing,Sure, he is making an absolute fortune - anti-Catholicism sells my dear! so i would say he knows what sells and writes around that.

A ton of them - and there is also the Fr Brown series by G K Chesterton there was the song of bernadette. the bells of st. mary’s. a movie about boystown with spencer tracy. those are all american movies. i am sure there are more.

Those mediaeval mysteries about monks are the Brother Cadfael series…I only read a couple but they were GREAT:thumbsup: There are also some good movies of them.

thanks Mark. these mysteries sound like they are fun to read. i like it when they are set back in time. the character of Brother Cadfael seems very interesting considering the little “bio” they gave of him. the picture of the actor looked familiar and i see at the top of the page PBS, so i will look for them on the Mystery show. thanks for giving me the name of the author also!! sounds like you are a brother cadfael fan.

For an author who wishes to sell a novel based on a religion with significant historical background, Dan Brown could not have chosen much better. The Catholic Faith has a 2000 year history supported by a very broad treasure of documents, traditions, events and evidence.

Any attention to the Church due to this movie will have a variety of consequences. Firstly, the Church would be subject to critical (and indeed biased?) scrutiny by some and others would, with little consideration for facts or the truth (the anti-Catholics), attack the Church.

Depending on the reaction of the Church and its members there would be several possible outcomes, probably simultaneous: the Church would be seen as being between either of two extremes: evil, or indeed the true, holy Church!

For those who are led to believe the former, the Church and its members would be seen and treated as evil. Some Catholics would lose their faith and leave. The key opportunity for those that retained their faith would be to behave as true Catholics so that the detractors would see that they were misled and thereby lead them to His Word.

If the Church were seen to be holy by those with discernment, it would lead them to glorify His Name. Hopefully it would also strengthen the faith of Catholics.

The Church fathers dealt with worse challenges!
We have the holy Spirit as did they.

If anything should happen as a result of this movie by Dan Brown, it is Catholics who should deepen their faith!

I can’t wait to see that movie! I LOVED the book! But then, I liked Da Vinci Code too.

I’m not worried. I know it’s not going to affect my faith. If your faith is that weak that a movie makes you lose it, there are other issues. But I LOVED that book! I’m studying Renaissance history and art history right now and a lot of the paintings and events mentioned in the book were things we discussed in those classes. So when our professors mentioned them, all I could think of was, “That was in Angels and Demons!”

They’re not as bad as they’re made out to be. If you know your faith, it’s not an issue. And if you lose your faith over a movie, there are other issues.

I could not bring myself to read a book, let alone LOVE a book that has Jesus and M Magdalene marry and have a child.

I believe that there were heaps of inaccuracies and outright lies in that book.

No, I am a little more selective thank you. And I am also loyal to Jesus and the Church.

:yup: :tsktsk: :tsktsk:

Cinette -

I can’t agree with you more!

No one that calls themselves a true Catholic should EVER support and encourage films such as these!!

Don’t you think that buying a movie ticket and putting money in Dan Brown’s pocket is supporting his trash?

Don’t forget that the Lord tells us to guard our hearts and our minds.
Guarding our minds means not ALLOWING poison to enter it.

Don’t listen to music that supports sin, don’t watch and support ANY media that DIRECTLY attacks the sanctity and grace of GOD!

It is so sad that so many Christians feel this way and have allowed themselves to be brainwashed by the “culture of death” we are living in. They have convinced themselves that things are “ok”.

No! There IS a RIGHT and WRONG!! Learn the difference!

Cinette - I think you are a strong Catholic. We do all feel smaller closer to God, because he is so BIG !!

Keep fighting! God Bless!

I am a revert after being away from the Church for 27 years. I firmly believe that the Holy Spirit, my guardian angel and EWTN have influenced me and I am happy to be influenced by them!

Imagine, we belonged to a parish where the priest was so “cool” - fantastic homilies, fantastic Masses (!!) but as I grew in faith and my husband converted we outgrew the priest who, by the way, announced from the pulpit that Dan Brown’s book was a good thriller and entertainment!

We left that parish!

Very true! And please don’t forget that mighty oaks from small acorns grow. A tiny seed of doubt that is planted in the soul can remain dormant for awhile, but then fester and grow.

Why feed your soul with that known to be untrue?
