The Christian Greek Horse of Isaiah 9:6

Here is a prophecy that has made many a Jew come to their knees, as they allow the Greek Horse into their abode supposing it to be a gift of God as the last and irrefutable word. Deep inside of one is the key for the truth deep inside of the other. But for lack of Knowledge my People perish. (Hosea 4:6)

When the Ten Tribes had been totally removed by Assyria, a group of Gentiles had been transfered to inhabit the cities of Samaria. After about 100 years, Judah in the South went into a temporary exile of 70 years in Babylon. In the meantime, Galilee became known as the District of the Gentiles, and eventually, the people started being called by the name of Samaritans.

Due to the approaching end of the Babylonian exile, the Gentile Priests of Galilee and Samaria had studied the prophecies of Isaiah and had been made aware of the end of the exile. They obviously had understood about the virgin Israel who had fallen and removed from existence, according to Amos 5:2 and Psalm 78:68, and that Judah, the son of that virgin, according to Isaiah 7:14,15, 22; 8:8, was about to return.

Now, to understand Isaiah 9:6, we must set it into the context of the whole chapter which speaks about the return of the Jews from Babylon, whose way back to Jerusalem was through the sea road west of the Jordan, called the Galilee of the Gentiles. (Isa. 9:1)

So, the people in this region, walking in darkness, saw a great light, which is a reference to the Jews returning through their lands in the direction of Jerusalem, and eventually settling throughout the Land, including the North. (Isa. 9:2)

The bottom line is that Isaiah 9:6 is a prophecy of Isaiah about those Gentiles in Galilee welcoming the great light they were getting with the return of the Jews. So, they would sing in the streets so to speak, proclaiming that a child was born to them, that the son had finally been given to them, and, as it is only natural and common among Gentiles, to render Divine attributes to the Benefactors, they would name the returning Jewish People as Wonderful, Counselor, even as the Mighty God Himself, the Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Just as the Egyptians would call Pharaoh himself. And Immanuel, God with us, which Isaiah himself had identified with Judah. (Isa. 8:8)

The point, therefore, is that Isaiah 9:6 is a prophecy about the excitement of the Gentiles welcoming the legitimate owners of the Land, who would reestablish the throne of David and bring peace to the Land and not a prophecy about someone who was supposed to come. (Isa. 9:7)

Totally removed? Quite an undertaking.
Totally removed could be an overstatement, because about two thirds of the Levites joined Judah in the South, and several thousands from the other Tribes did the same. But the People, to function as a community, was removed from the North and replaced by Gentiles from throughout the Assyrian Empire.

Shalom Juden, what brings you out here in this neck of the woods, stirring up trouble for the Goyim I see, care on care on!

**And to you too MOTP, I say Shalom from Yerushalaim. Where are you greeting me from to address me as Juden? Yes, I am Jewish, but I wonder who would say it “Juden.”

And about stirring up trouble, I wish I didn’t have to, but I have been instigated to. You know how Israelis are. They give a sheep not to get into the battlefield, but then they give a herd not to get out until the job is done. **

I was going to call you Jude as in “Hey Jude” from the Beatles, but I have a German Jewish friend we all call Juden, we have nicknames for each other. No insult intended.

Dopey analysis and pathetic. Is this another congenital problem of yours Benny, ie sophomoric analyses.

Everybody knows including you that Is 9.6 is talking about Jesus Christ.

Heehee !!!
the Jewish people = prince of peace.
the Jewish people = mighty God. lol, Like you Benny, you think you’re God, in another thread you want to be part of the collective Christ. I really think you need to see an MD pronto, preferably one who is well versed in the DSM-4. 👍

1 John 2:22
Who is a liar
but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ
He is antichrist

STM that the OP is more nearly right than Christians who think those words are a prediction of Jesus.

IMHO, the text could be exilic: as the OP says - but ISTM that Hezekiah of Judah is meant.

The oracle is not a long-range prediction of Jesus; that much is certain. It is applicable to Him, & is applied to Him in the NT - but He is not the intended subject-matter of it. Isaiah (or whoever the prophet was) knew nothing of Jesus; he was an intelligent agent, not a slot-machine coughing up texts without thought. Jesus may well have been intended as the supreme & long-range fulfilment passage of Isaiah - but by God, not by the prophet. So we have to reckon with what the prophet meant - for he was addressing a specific human situation. If he were a mere prediction-machine, he would not be different from a medium channelling automatic writing; he would be very unlike other priophets, such as Jeremiah or Ezekiel, for they act as responsible and intelligent agents - not as the holy dictaphones the “long-range prediction” theory makes them. Isaiah 8.3 is addressed to the concerns of Isaiah’s fellow-Jerusalemites - so why cannot 9.6 also be addressed to the people who heard it first ? If the one passage is not “long-range” - why is the other ?

OT prediction is not like that - it is short-range, like the predictions before the sack of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar. The meaning of the Bible is wronged, if only the Christian application of a passage is attended to, & not the meaning the passage had for its earliest hearers.

To (try to) give full weight to the original - and ascertainable - meanings of predictions, does not wrong or rob Christ: it recognises that revelation, culminating in Him, is gradual & fragmentary & fully influenced by historical realities. IOW, it behaves according to the economy of the Incarnation: it is “incarnational”.

**Open up the Scriptures Jesus used to handle and show me where Isaiah 9:6 is talking about Jesus. If you can show me, you have won this Jew for the Church.

You are only telling me that you did not understand the thread. That’s not Isaiah speaking but prophesying that the Gentiles would be acclaiming the return of the Jews with those adjectives. It is very natural for Gentiles to use those words to welcome benefactors. Read Isaiah 9:6 within the context of the whole chapter.**
