St Thomas the Apostle went to India after Jesus’s Ascension. The Catholic church in India was founded by him. There are many interesting pious legends about him during this time, including that he witnessed with Assumption of Mary. There is also the “Marthomite Church” (aka Mar Thoma Church) which came about due to the efforts of Anglican missionaries among the Syriac Orthodox.
