Since this thread had got caught up on the issue of suffrage, I would just like to point out:
Women are not the only ones who were denied suffrage. In the past, if you were black, hispanic, or generally non-white, you could not vote, regardless if you were a man.
Heck, in a lot of states, you could be white AND male, but if you didn’t own property, you couldn’t vote.
So while women may have been among the last groups to be denied suffrage, they weren’t the first.
