I understand what your saying, but do we just shrug our shoulders and say “oh well… that’s the way it’s always been.”?

Lourdes, Fatima and Akita are all if fairly rapid succession. Christ sent His mother to us for a reason. Now here’s the $64,000 question – are we going to take Christ seriously?
Caveman:

Miracles usually happen as a gift of grace. They are not necessary to the faith, because all that needed to be revealed has been revealed.

If you listen to messages of these apparitions and you listen to the teaching of the Magisterium, you will find no difference.

Therefore, those who follow the Magisterium, even if they ignore the miracles, for whatever reason . . . maybe they don’t know about it, these people are doing the right thing.

The deposit of truth is not in miracles, it is the Church.

Are you upset that the Magisterium has not promoted devotion to the miracle of Akita?

I’m unsure I follow what is upsetting you. 🙂

You shouldn’t worry about it if it isn’t the truth.

Look upon it this way… Christ sent His Holy Mother to us with certain warnings, and certain signs that would precipitate a Great Chastisment.
(snip)
Couple that with the warnings that “Cardinals will oppose Cardinals, Bishops apposing Bishops”, etc. And let’s not forget about “churches and altars will be sacked, priests who venerate me will be scorned” and that “many will accept compromise”.

Jesus wants us to know that there will be an attempt to destroy The Church from within. And even worse… from those in positions of power.

If the Warnings of The Holy Mother at Akita don’t literally scare the hell out of us, then obviously, there are “Catholics” that don’t take their Catholicism seriously. Either that, or per the warnings of Mary, those individuals are agents of satan.

And amazingly enough (insert sarcasm here), Akita is the apparition that no one wants to talk about.

Gee, I wonder why?
To repeat what myself and others have already said: We didn’t and don’t need an apparition to point these things out: Church officials butting heads, “attempts to destroy the church from within”, etc., etc. This isn’t prophesy; we know this is already happening and that it isn’t getting any better…

And yes, it does scare the heck out of me! But that’s not because I’m taking Out lady of Akita seriously. It’s because I am aware of what is pretty much common knowledge!

None of us are bound to pay attention to this or any other apparition. Which is what I choose to do because I don’t want to be vulnerable to deception. I do not wish to denigrate your personl devotion to this apparition, but just to point out that for some Catholics, the truth as revealed through scripture and the magisterium of the church is sufficient.

If it’s important enough for Christ to send His mother with warnings… one would think we would all be just a wee bit more concerned and have just a lil’ more sense of urgency to the deplorable state of affairs within The Church.

Some would go as far as to say that we are currently living the 3d Secret of Fatima… “The Age of Apostacy”.

Here’s the bottom line… per the Akita Warnings, few will argue that we currently have many of our own Church leaders who are in league with the devil. (If anyone has a problem with me coming out and saying that… take it up with Jesus and His mother)

We have a majority of practising Catholics who don’t even adhere to the very basics of Catholicism (belief in The Real Presence, actually attending the Sacrament of Confession on even a semi-regular basis, etc.)

And the worse part of alll this is that the average Catholic either doesn’t want to hear about it, or they just shrug their shoulders and say this is the way it’s always been.

Look at it this way, guys… if the IRS notified you that they were about to take absolutely EVERYTHING you owned and leave you destitute unless things in your finacial situation changed REAL SOON… wouldn’t we all have one dire sense of urgency in fixing things?

Again, per Jesus via His Holy Mother… the Great Chastisment is at hand unless things change real darn quick.

Shouldn’t we act like it?

You’re right!! But I’d like you to consider this… just like Joe Kelley posted earlier in this thread, something about how God might holler to us “DON’T MAKE ME COME DOWN THERE!!”.

We all remember as kids, that we were SUPPOSE to behave ourselves, but sometimes… sometimes… we’d act-up and knew that we were pushing the envelope.

And without fail, one or both of our parents would holler "DON’T MAKE ME COME DOWN THERE OR YOU’LL BET A WHIPPING LIKE YOU’VE NEVER GOTTEN BEFORE!!"

Even though we’ve known “all along” not to behave badly, we did anyways. And now the parental units are giving us a serious warning. A warning like the’ve never given us before.

Please keep in mind that Jesus had His Holy Mother tell us that the coming chastisment would be greater than the Great Deluge. And only 8 people survived that.

Yeah… I think we should take Jesus with a bit more of a sense of urgency than what we have been.

And please don’t think I’m trying to personally attack either you or JRed, because I honestly do agree with much of what you both say.

May God bless you both,
The Catholic Caveman

This particular apparition is well know in my part of the world and is talked about. Maybe the scope of knowledge abouot it hasn’t reached a worldwide scope yet like Fatima or Lourdes? I think that’s the only difference.

Through Caveman’s blog I found this link that describes the apparition:

theworkofgod.org/Aparitns/Akita.htm

Something that bothered me about the final apparition and what she supposedly said at the end of it:

“. . . Pray very much the prayers of the Rosary. **I alone **am able still to save you from the calamities which approach. Those who place their confidence in me will be saved.”

I’m not sure I feel ‘comfortable’ with the underlined statement. It seemed kind of out of line with what a catholic believes about the Holy Mother. Mary herself doesn’t really have the power to save anyone, according to my understanding. She takes our prayers to Jesus and the Father. It seems a little heretical for an apparition to say “I alone can save you, place confidence in me.”

I can understand the Holy Mother’s desire for us to pray to her, and I am a big believer in the power of the Rosary. But this just sits wrong with me.

Some of the other statements about the Father bringing down wrath on us don’t seem quite right either.

In the end, if what people take from this is to pray the Rosary and be holier people, I suppose that’s good. But one must be careful about what we believe with the apparitions. And of course, we aren’t required to believe in private revelations at all.

I was recently informed that a certain Father Parker of St. Mary’s parish in Iowa gave a sermon recently about the warnings given by The Holy Mather at Akita, Japan back in 1973.
In the time-scale that the Church works in, it’s like yesterday. And thus the Holy Mother Church does put a very high bar for apparitions for the single reason that if it’s God’s Will that an apparition becomes popular worldwide, it will no matter what she does.

Think of Jesus’ apparitions to St. Faustina, an apparition that I’m not sure will ever be recognized, because they were very private. Yet, out of them we were blessed by a rebirth of devotion to the Divine Mercy in a new form, with a new image and a new prayer to boot! Of course, it took over 50 or 60 years for all this to come to fruition.

BTW, this example also sheds light on the time-scale of the messages of many apparitions: they become widespread at the time when they are necessary, even if decades after the fact.

I don’t know much about Akita and I’d like to know more about it. But I’m sure that if Jesus wants it to become more popular in our days, He’ll call us sinners to help out and perhaps He’s calling you for this task. And if it’s so, expect nothing but resistance and spite. Look up to others who worked for other apparitions in their meekness and humility before all these challenges. But always pray about it when sharing it with others.

:blessyou:

No need to worry, Thomas. Just remember… TO Jesus THROUGH Mary.

Don’t forget that right next to the Sacred Heart, is the Immaculate Heart.

Of course we should take Christ seriously. He told us these same things himself! What I am saying is that these messages aren’t something to be inordinately alarmed about, as if they are something we have not ever known, but that they are a reiteration of what Christ has already warned us about 2000 years ago. We should always be aware of these things - there should never be a time when we aren’t aware of them.

And the fact that these messages are given in certain places among specific groups of people lead me to believe that for some reason, these particular people needed to hear this message again, to be reminded.

I’m only saying that you should not become so anxious concerning the rest of the world’s reaction or lack of reaction. Most of us are well aware that Satan is alive and well and trying his best to undo - from within - Christ’s work through His Church. 😊 🤷

Regarding, “DON’T MAKE ME COME DOWN THERE,” as I recall when Jesus left He told his disciples that He would be coming back. So nothing we do or don’t do is going to prevent Him from “coming down there.” Jesus told us while He was here the first time about the condition that the world would be in when He returns. The fact that His Mother is appearing and saying that these conditions are becoming more and more prevalent and widespread throughout the world and the Church should be no surprise to anyone. The end of time is breathing down our necks.

But this is not at all important. Lay your fingers on your wrist, feel the thump, thump, thump of your pulse. The end of time for you and me is exactly one thump away. The question is, are we ready to face God in the space of a heart beat? If we are, then we need have no fear of any of the messages from any of Mary’s apparitions. If we are not, then as God told the rich man in the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus, if people don’t listen to the law and the prophets and believe, they aren’t going to believe even if one were to return from the dead and tell them.

Caveman:

The head of the Church is the Holy Father in communion with the Bishops. The Holy Father is incapable of erring in matters of faith and morals. Therefore, you can relax on this issue. So are the bishops when in communion with each other, such as when the Pope is dead, etc.

This Pope and his predecessors have a clear understanding of the dangers whithin and around the Church. They have offered much guidance to the faithful on avoiding those dangers or getting out of them, for those who may be steeped in sin.

I say this in the gentlest manner and with the utmost respect to our Lady. When it comes to authority in the Church, Peter is still the Vicar of Christ, not Mary. Our Lady would tell you the same thing that she told the waiters at the wedding, “Do whatever he tells you.”

She recognizes and accepts the authority of Peter. She also recognizes and accepts that her Son speaks through Peter by the Power of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, she would say, “Do whatever Peter tells you.” She knows that Peter’s teachings on faith and morals cannot err, even if he’s the greatest sinner on Earth.

Therefore, when Mary delivers a message from her Son, she will never deliver a messae that the Holy Spirit has not already revealed to Peter. Her messages are usually confirmations. I’m rememering Lourdes when she told Bernadette, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” The Eastern Orthodox church had already taught us this. The Roman Catholic Church also believed it. It had not been declared a dogma, but it was already part of our faith, by tradition. Mary simply confirmed what we already believed.

In the end, it’s ok to follow the guidance of the Holy Father to get out of the mess that we’re in. Our lady will not take offense if the Holy Father does not mention her messages, be they from Akita, Lourdes, Guadalupe or Fatima.

Haven’t you noticed that the Holy Father never mentions any of Mary’s messages in his official declarations, incyclicals, or decrees? He will mention Mary in speaking about devotion to her or in speaking about her place in salvation history and the life of the Church. But he does not cite her authority when teaching faith and morals. He uses her as an example of faith, for that is her role in the Church. She is the first and perfect Christian, also the mother of the Church. She is not the head of the Church.

Christ and Peter are the authorities. The Holy Father will either refer to Christ’s authority or to his own, when making an official declaration. Usually he uses the pronoun “We”.

My point is that Jesus may have sent Mary with a message, but it’s not a message that the Holy Father has not received through the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, do not be upset if he does not mention her. It is not because he wants to ignore her. The last several Popes have been very Marian. He does not mention her messages, because it is not necessary. He already knows and in the end, she has no jusristiction over the Curch. He does. Therefore, only he can mandate what we are to do.

Please relax and believe that the Holy Father already knows and is already acting on whatever needs attention.

God bless you 🙂

No need to worry, Thomas. Just remember… TO Jesus THROUGH Mary.
That’s not what the apparition says though. She supposedly said “I alone can save you…” That is not in line with catholic teachings about Jesus and Mary and I’m frankly suprised that this apparition was approved. If she had said “I will present your prayers to my Son and His Father” I would feel differently. Just seems out of line.

As for the popularity of the Akita devotion in the West, this apparition, to my knowledge, is considered a “second Fatima”. The message is virtually identical, down to the “Fatima prayer”.

JR’s post is excellent and should be an “apparitions sticky” on this forum. nuf said.

You aren’t alone in this; Those lines don’t sit well with me, either…There are a few from the La Salette appartition that are the same way, something to the effect of Jesus is so angry at us that Mary has to (tearfully) hold him back…Aside from the problem of imagining a domestic drama going on in Heaven, the implication is that there’s nothing but Mary’s mercy and love for us standing between us and God’s wrath. It doesn’t agree with everything else we know about Jesus, or about Mary and her role in the Church. Maybe something has been lost in the translation?

I had occasion to review this entire Fatima message from the Vatican prior to submitting it in another thread, so perhaps some of the background in it will be helpful for this thread as well.
  1. Private revelation is a help to this faith, and shows its credibility precisely by leading me back to the definitive public Revelation. In this regard, Cardinal Prospero Lambertini, the future Pope Benedict XIV, says in his classic treatise, which later became normative for beatifications and canonizations: “An assent of Catholic faith is not due to revelations approved in this way; it is not even possible. These revelations seek rather an assent of human faith in keeping with the requirements of prudence, which puts them before us as probable and credible to piety”.
The Flemish theologian E. Dhanis, an eminent scholar in this field, states succinctly that ecclesiastical approval of a private revelation has three elements:
  • the message contains nothing contrary to faith or morals
  • it is lawful to make it public
  • the faithful are authorized to accept it with prudence
Such a message can be a genuine help in understanding the Gospel and living it better at a particular moment in time; therefore it should not be disregarded.
It is a help which is offered, but which one is not obliged to use.
The criterion for the truth and value of a private revelation is therefore its orientation to Christ himself. When it leads us away from him, when it becomes independent of him or even presents itself as another and better plan of salvation, more important than the Gospel, then it certainly does not come from the Holy Spirit, who guides us more deeply into the Gospel and not away from it.
In the private revelations approved by the Church, this is the point: they help us to understand the signs of the times and to respond to them rightly in faith.
(Emphasis mine)

Consider the possibility that God has decided on a chastisement of the world. Consider further that He has agreed to listen to Mary’s plea for lieniency for at least some cases. Would *I alone can save you *not be an appropriate way of stating that?

Consider the case of Esther [8: 7-10]
Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, “Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows, because he would lay hands on the Jews. 8 And you may write as you please with regard to the Jews, in the name of the king, and seal it with the king’s ring; for an edict written in the name of the king and sealed with the king’s ring cannot be revoked.” 9 The king’s secretaries were summoned at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day; and an edict was written according to all that Mordecai commanded concerning the Jews to the satraps and the governors and the princes of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, a hundred and twenty-seven provinces, to every province in its own script and to every people in its own language, and also to the Jews in their script and their language. 10 The writing was in the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed with the king’s ring, and letters were sent by mounted couriers riding on swift horses that were used in the king’s service, bred from the royal stud.
who saved the Jews - The King? Esther? Mordacai?

Please relax and believe that the Holy Father already knows and is already acting on whatever needs attention.
JR,
Please know that I have no intention of “relaxing”. I, for one, happen to take quite serious the warning that Jesus gave to His mother to give us. If you so desire to just blow it off, that most certainly is your call.

By the way, I’m quite certain that The Holy Father is aware of this. After all, the warnings were’t just given to the pope… they were given to us all.

Hmmm… “given to us all”. Interesting that it worked out that way, 'eh?

So in this scenerio, Mary is more merciful than God, right?
Does that agree with what we know to be true about God?

AC,
Please consider the following —

I’m sure you remember the wedding feast at Canna. As we all know, the Divine Plan that The Father, Son and Holy Ghost had for the public ministry of Jesus was already established by The Blessed Trinity. No of us doubt that.

But here was this simple Hebrew woman who asked her Son to change what had already been planned before time itself.

Remember, when Jesus initially refused toi change water to wine, it was His mother that asked Him to change The Divine Plan. I’m sure you remember that Jesus said “Woman, it is not My time yet”. But Mary still insisted.

And, like I said, this simple Hebrew woman changed the entire Divine Plan.

Pretty powerful woman, I’d say! And let’s not forget… Mary IS The Queen of Heaven and Earth, all the angels and Saints!
