I don’t believe that the most important point has to do with gloom and doom and chastisements; it has to do with priests introducing irreverent practices in the Mass, which is gravely displeasing to God.
Prayer for the sanctification of priests is a remedy for this serious situation, and the Holy See has requested it as well.

In post 76 I quoted what the Sister said she heard and I also posted the link.

Though there have been abuses in the liturgy, I will not argue with that, this is not mentioned in the message.

Let’s be careful not to add to this message what is not there. Besides, deliberately defying the Eucharistic celebration is already covered under the word “sin”.

As to those who add all kinds of wacky elements to the mass, with the intention of helping people grow in their spirituality, that’s not deliberate desecration of the mass. Those are errors of judgement. Who doesn’t make those? I do, at least onece a month. Maybe more. But there is no wrong intended. Not every priest who adds something crazy to the liturgy is intending to do harm. Most, really want to draw their congregation into the liturgy.

Many of these messages (thinking mainly here of Medjugorje and Garabandal…I realize these are not approved, yet Garabandal is widely accepted amongst many respected theologans and some Catholic apologists) imply a time limit on said “warning”. If the time limit expires and there is no “warning” (it is measureable), I’d suggest it suggests very good reason to doubt any and all apparitions of the past.

The reason I say this is because, it suggests one of two possiblities. Either the appariotions are somehow a mainfistation of a mental problem, or an overactive imagination, or demonic in nature. It would suggest that if evil forces can be this convincing in these two locals, then there is no reason to believe that Fatima and Lourdes are not very well crafted deceptions also. We are told that the devil is highly intelligent and exceedingly crafty and determined.

Do the protestants have a good case here? Is it possible the devil would allow good for the purpose of a greater evil to become manifest? Such as a mass deception and division? We believe God allows evil for the manifestation of a greater good.

This is my opinion, and time, is running out.

One of the messages of Akita that I find troubling is this one from October 13, 1973:
“. . . if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before.” -emphasis added
That message contradicts what God said in Genesis after the flood"
“Never again will I doom the earth because of man, since the desires of man’s heart are evil from the start; nor will I ever again strike down all living beings, as I have done.” Genesis 8:21
Do believers of the Akita apparitions believe that God is going back on his word given in Genesis?

Note that God qualifies that in Genesis 9:11 to say “… never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” 2Peter 3:10 foretells the fire next time.

The main Garabandal visionary repeatedly prophecied that Pope JPII would be the last pope. She said that he would be alive for the Great Miracle of Garabandal and the Chastisement, which would all dramatically usher in the end times.

My family has a tradition of STRONG devotion to Mary’s apparitions, and when JPII died, it actually provoked some painful questions in my grandma and one of my cousins in particular re: this PR. I don’t know exactly how it was resolved in their hearts, or if it ever was. They gradually just stopped talking about Garabandal.

I was kind of relieved that I had always thought it was a creepy apparition and had never been too interested in it.
Of course, I still have no idea what the ultimate truth is, and I’m not trying to make a judgement about it here.

The only answer is yes, it is possible.
Which is why so much care needs to be taken when considering these apparitions. You mention that they have to be either from God or “a mainfistation of a mental problem, or an overactive imagination, or demonic in nature.” I would also add another possibility: a revelation can be supernatural and divinely inspired, but still become distorted when it goes public.

Fr. Benedict Groeschel has a book about PR called A Still, Small Voice. I can’t adequately present his insights, but here’s a brief sketch: If a message is from God, He obviously knows that a fallible human is remembering and describing and interpreting it. Something is always going to be lost in translation. Human beings don’t have the same guarantee of infallability and uncorrupt teaching that Christ gave the Church.

Everything that makes the visionary a human being affects both their own interpretations of what they’ve seen and how those visions are described and relayed to the public. It’s all filtered through their (fallible) perspective and imaginations. Education, vocabulary, spirituality, upbringing, family and culture, emotional state, etc., etc. will ALL factor in to their interpretations.

Hi AC Claire,
Code:
According to Apparitions.org, the Church has not made a determination on Garabandal. The following document pertains to Fatima, but there is a useful section (about three quarters in), regarding apparitions in general.
vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20000626_message-fatima_en.html

These predictions, such as the Great Chastisement are not necessarily etched in stone. “The purpose of the vision is not to show a film of an irrevocably fixed future. Its meaning is exactly the opposite: it is meant to mobilize the forces of change in the right direction.” The Great Chastisement can be postponed or avoided entirely through response and prayer. It may be possible that the outpouring of people and prayers has postponed these catastrophic events.

For example, in the apparitions to Sister Agnes Sasagawa, the message that concerns the Great Chastisement, starts off with the word “If” - ”If men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity.

I suspect this may be the same with Garabandal, there may have been a condition. The “If”.

God Bless

Insight,

Thanks for the reply. I had to go back and re-read what you responded to, though, b/c I wrote it 3 months ago. 😉 I guess my feelings on the topic haven’t changed very much since then.

I don’t know why our recent thread was deleted! 🤷
I was thinking of PMing someone who was on it when I saw this resurrected thread. If I had to guess…? The titles of this thread we’re on now and the one that disappeared were almost exactly the same. And on the same sub-forum. So perhaps a moderator accidentally deleted it, thinking it was a duplicate thread…? Or something? I don’t know. But I will say that I am very suprised by what you suggested on the staff chat thread, that the conflict may have been about the ethnicity of the apparition. That just came out of left field, didn’t it? Unless there were some weird PMs going on or some subtext I was totally blind to…the ethnicity had nothing whatsoever to do with anything. I don’t mean any offense, I’m just confused.

About Garabandal: I have only heard that it has not been approved, and the apparitions were retracted by more than one of the visonaries. I apologize for not having the sources for that right now. Give me a day or so and I’ll remember and post them. But I do know it was more than one source. My family had a great devotion to Garabandal, which is why I followed the case. There were elements of that apparition that had always given me a not-good feeling, like it’s dramatic supernatural nature, and the inconsistency of some of the prophesies and “secrets.”

My suspicion of the Akita apparition is for reasons along these same lines. However, I am not “against” it and I most certainly do not hate or fear it. I just personally choose not to venerate it because it seems like a risk to me. I do not want to be deceived, so I try to be as prudent as possible about where I place my faith. Does that make sense?
