Is it safe to say that at some point in the future, the Church could change the teaching on ABC? What would you all do/think at that point???

Whatever Holy Mother Church teaches is what I accept.

I cannot imagine they would. It follows pretty elementarily from natural law.

At any rate (if I were married) I would continue to practice NFP.

It is not “safe to say” that the Church would ever change its teaching on anything; it never has, and never will. Therefore, your second question is pointless.

This thread is absurd. No, it will never happen. The Natural Law is unchanging.

I doubt it. Humanae Vitae isn’t exactly just scribbling.

The Church could receive a deepening understanding of life but it can never change black to white or wrong to right. IF ABC is understood to mean that which either chemically or otherwise is abortifacient, and/or that which ‘removes’ the element of openness to procreation in the marital act itself, both of which are grossly wrong, then the only ‘way’ the Church would change is for there to be put forth a proof that ABC does NOT in any way cause the chance of abortion and/or that it does NOT remove the element of openness to procreation n the marital act itself. And frankly I don’t see that happening.

Why not come up with an argument on something the Church COULD change --like celibacy for priests, or requiring priests to have beards, or bringing back year-round Friday abstinence --and not a hypothetical on a topic which will NOT change?

It should be safe to say…we no longer burn people at the stake.

But it would involve a major change to the Catechism. I cannot see this happening in my lifetime. The Church does not set moral standards by popular vote.:dts:

As my mother used to tell me I will say to you. Never say Never!!! 😃

I would say, “Great. Ok, they’ve changed it. Big deal.”

My faith in the church is alot deeper than their stance on birth control.

OK, suppose a drug was discovered that, if taken just before sex, reduces that chances of pregnancy by 50% as compared to what it would have been without taking the drug? Would that be ABC? It does not totally remove the openness to procreation - it only lessens it a bit. Then suppose that the chances were reduced by 75%, then 90%, then 99%. At what point would taking such a drug (or perhaps a natural fruit juice) become ABC?

no, it is not safe to say that. It is no safer to say that the Church could change the teaching on ABC than to say that we will one day have a woman Pope.

The Church can not take something that is immoral and ‘make’ it moral. Morality does not change.

I don’t think it is absurd at all. I am out to learn, and I will learn alot from this thread!🙂
It’s not absurd, ignore anyone who tells you differently. As long as your asking an honest question and not doing it just to be pest, virtually any question is okay.

I think it’s only a matter of time before it happens, quite honestly.

At the point you pop the pill into your mouth. You’re still taking a drug to make your reproductive organs hostile to creating a life and that is ABC.
