I don’t think the Lord will go back on His words.

Anywaym, I am from the Philippines and I could attest to what **mspencer ** just said. Despite all the problems, the Church in the Philippines does not show signs of weakening.

The demise of the Church has been predicted by every enemy from within and without since Judas betrayed Christ. There’s nothing new here.

I am reminded of a scene from Arthur Canon Doyle’s immortal detective, Sherlock Holmes. One of Holmes potential clients didn’t like what he had to say to him and so threatened to break Holmes and see him destroyed. Holmes coolly answered, “So many have said so, and yet here I am.”

The Church gives the same answer as Holmes to her enemies and prophets of doom. They have turned to dust, their threats come to nothing, their philosophies failed. But, the Church goes on.

irishet3:
Mass can be held anywhere; Christ can come to you anywhere. It is not the building, it is not the laws it is the love Christ showed for all us. That’s the key, God’s children not some building.

I was worried that this sentiment was prevelent in the Church; it is best I not visit here again. God bless you all.

Don’t know if G.K.Chesterton has been quoted or not, sorry if he has…

The Catholic Church has died many times throughout history. It always comes back because it has a God who knows the way out of the tomb.

How can you say that after seeing how everything is?
Salival, we walk by faith not by sight. And through the eyes of faith we see very clearly! We see our hope in the resurrection. You asked why must the church suffer, Christ suffered he was innocent of any crime and yet he was persecuted and bore our Sins on the cross. Our Lord even warned us that if they persecuted him they will do the same to us because no servant is greater than his master. Their may be sinner’s in the church, but where sin is Grace abounds. You see we will not lose Faith or Hope because of the circumstances, but in the midst of trails and tribulations, we the church, the body of Christ will persevere with the help of the Most Blessed Holy Trinity. And in reference to evolution, The Sacred Word of God tells us that the wisdom of the wise is foolishness to God. I do not pretend to have all the answers and may not be able to completely explain everything. But neither can Science. We have a hope and a promise from Christ, If we should suffer and only a remnant of the church is left than may God’s will be Done. However just because their may only be a decreasing minority of Catholic’s in your view, does not mean that truth resides somewhere else. As I understand it the majority of the World thought that the earth was flat once too. 😉 I will pray for you that you may come to fully understand the Hope that we have in Christ. May The Lord Bless you and Increase you in knowledge!

The things you speak of are what makes our faith so great… You see, Jesus teaches us to always have FAITH. In faith we gain STRENGTH. The strength to put on our armor and fight these evils that you speak of. Through our defense of the moral truths we become closer to God… this positive spiral keeps on growing along with our faith & LOVE for God!. Hence, in the end we have done HIS will and battled evil in the process. 😃

I pray that through faith you gain the strength to pick up your rock & slingshot & see how an unconditional love of God will allow you to KILL the giant named DECEPTION that is attacking you! :tiphat:
GOD BLESS!

Dear rrestivo,

I join you in prayer, but I have a few comments to the way we have gone about dealing with this person. They are not directed at you personally, but all of us as a whole.

If a person is deceived, and she cannot get help for it here, then what good are we? Are we here only to bicker, to posture ourselves above others who aren’t as happy with the Church right now as we are, and of course to have goofy fun off-topic? 😛 This person is not in here impugning other posters, and has had some bad experiences. We find some things in what we say to be problematic, so instead of helping sort it out we tend to take sides. In this case it’s OP v Church and the OP makes one false move and DING! The Church wins, OP step aside.

Not everything that has been claimed here is a sign of deception. I think we may be able to help sort it out, such that we can be part of that “rock and slingshot.”

All male heirarchy being less than optimal? Arguable by honest Catholics, but not changeable. Therefore it is something to “get over” rather than something to sound off.

Embarrassing situation with moving the altar? Clearly the meeting which was poorly planned, and might have caused embarrassment. Also something to get over. Was the AB more abrupt, angry, of condescending than necessary? We don’t know but that’s something we need to get over. Was it an embarrassement to the people involved? Maybe so but I strongly object to our assumptions that they were “disrespectful” by setting it up that way.

“Disrespect” connotes that they knew what they were doing was wrong and did it anyway, and we have zero evidence of that other than some poster’s thoughts that they “should have known.” This is a particular sore spot with me, because for many years I have gotten blamed for doing what I was supposed to do, only later to be told that I “should have known” they wanted it different when they did not say so – and therefore ignorance on my part became punished as if it were defiance. This was the case all through grade school – not much in public high school or private college – but happens all the time at work and at church. If a person doesn’t know their action is wrong and they are doing what they think they were told by proper authority, then they are innocent and the “sin” is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe they make a mistake; further maybe they are upset about it because nobody’s ever apologized for misleading them or had anybody credible to talk to. We are here to help them through it, and to help them understand – not to use it as a reason to disnmiss a person’s honest issues.

Many places where Mass is said don’t even have a permanent altar. Especially if it had been done that way in previous years, how are the “little ones” supposed to know that it’s some big sacrilege to move the altar?

Arrogance, abuses and lack of accountability? Hardly any honest Catholic would doubt this charge. The diocese of Spokane sits in danger of having all its assets sold off and we can blame the victims or the government all we want, but the problem which might have begun as individual priests sinning, was perpuated and enabled for years by Those In Power, acting in their Official Duties, and protecting the “Church” rather than the people – then look what happens.

If we think salival or whoever we’re talking about is deceived, then let’s her sort it our rather than take the rantings of an upset person, find fault with it, then dismiss the person and the rantings as deception.

How many of us, when very upset by something, tend to “lump in” things that aren’t really problems with problems? One great example is this thread. We hear a mixture of truth and deception coming from the mouth of an upset sister. We listen to hear for that part we can label as “deception,” and neatly dispose of this argument by writing off the sister since she is obviously off base. Then we all feel better because we can “notch on up” in our belt that we have protected the Church yet again from one of her sheep who has felt pain at the hands of the worldly shepherds.

Maybe we need a rule: if you’re ever upset, or if you have been a victim, then unless every single thing you say is objectively True to Church Teachings within our ability to detect it, then you are the problem.

It is all well and good to pray for someone to learn their lessons and move on, but I think we need to help with it rather than command it or wish it, especially on a Catholic Apologist web site with all of us wannabe apologists! This should be the best place in the world for Catholics who love the Church but are upset about something to come, be listened to with kind ears and hearts, and helped to sort out their problems. It’s not like we are helpless to do anything here other than judge, pray and move on; this forum is a fountain of discovery of the Truth.
James 2:12-16 -- emphasis added:
So speak and so act as people who will be judged by the law of freedom.

For the judgment is merciless to one who has not shown mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment. What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?
What’s it going to be? Is our faith but lip service?

Someone quoted Chesterton as saying:

A “spin” on this, might well read:

The Church will find the way out of the tomb, via the
tunnel that God has provided…Protestantism.

Hey I dout very much that GK Chesterton had protestantism as the tunnel that God has provided in mind. I think that you know that. However If Christ is faithful to his promise that the gates of hell will not provail against the Church, and we know that He is a Faithful God. Then he is they way out of the tomb and the Church that he founded, Upon the rock Peter will not fall. God is faithful to his promises as I am sure you will agree. May the Lord bless you. 🙂

To wounded sheep, in every state of woundedness,

The Shepherd has set up an infirmary,

"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures,

He leadth me beside the still waters,

…He revives my ‘wounded’ spirit

Hmmm…

Don’t think you’ll find much support on those views on this website.

I’m speaking from the perspective of someone who attended an Evangelical seminary of a large denomination, and has now recently decided to go into Catholicism.

The same problems that exist in the Catholic Church exist in the church I came from and other Protestant churches. This is because sin exists, and even Jesus said their would be wolves among the sheep. Now, I think those who participate in what is happening should be punished (don’t get me wrong) I also think God will deal with them. But this doesn’t mean we should ever say the Church will die.

In some of the most decadent periods of Church history, (God brought judgment then revival. I have no doubt He is discipling and will discipline the Church, but that is because He loves the Church. We must not put our trust in human leaders; we have to place our trust in Christ. We have to trust his promise that He will never leave our forsake the Church, and this means trusting the structure Christ gave us, even when it hurts. Now, I do think if our leaders go against the teachings of the Church, we should speak up. Just as God called the prophets of Israel to speak up against the Kings.

I personally think that we are living in the last days, and I do remember in 2 Peter, the book says when Christ comes will he find faith on earth? (or something like that) There is coming a time when I think people are going to start rejecting Christ (near the end) But Christ will not abandon the Church; their will always be a remnant.

We need to pray for our leaders, and ask God to speak to them, and yes hold them accountable if necessary! But we also I think need to just fix our eyes on Christ and trust him. Their have always been bad leaders in the Catholic Church; but the Church has survived because in reality. Its Christ who is the head of our Church, and the Holy Spirit who is guiding our Church. This Holy Spirit has guided our leaders; even when times were bad, and even when the leaders faith themselves is questionable. I’ve seen God speak through sinners before (He is that powerful.) I have no doubt that the Lord will judge those who have done these kind of things to the Church. Sometimes we just have to follow Jesus Words when he told the Jews (in response to the Elders at the Seat of Moses) Do what they say and not what they do!
