The Church response to claims that Jesus never existed?

It was an ossuary (burial box for bones), and it was proven to be a fraud.

Even without it, though, the proof that Jesus existed is as solid as ANY historical evidence from the time, and even most of the history since. The non-Scriptural writings from the period, from both Romans and Jews (and Jewish Romans, in the case of Josephus) clearly indicate that a rabbi named Jesus formed some sort of following that was led by a close group of friends. That is just solid history 🙂

These people that I’m dealing with have already thrown out Josephus, Tacitus, Lucius, and all the others that I’ve been able to find because they are not eye-witness accounts. They want to hear it from someone who actually met Jesus or saw him (who could also read and write).

Well, not much you can do if they are essentially insisting on 12 signed affadavits from the apostles’ hands. Let 'em rant on this ridiculous line–Christ is not in any way disposed of because of it. The smarter non-believers don’t take this approach.

I realize that, and I agree. Is there a widely accepted list of criteria anywhere for sufficient evidence supporting the existence of a historical figure 2000 years old?
