All impurity begins within the human heart, not the Bride of Christ in herself. Christ is our source of purity…just another perspective here.
Amen. The Church is pure, both before and after Constantine, because it is the Body of Christ and Christ is the head. The members of the Church are not pure, which is why we all need the Church to begin with. If we were pure we would not need Christ or his Church. All impurity begins within the human heart, not the Bride of Christ in herself. Christ is our source of purity…just another perspective here.
I am sure there were many many things that were said and done during Jesus’ ministry on earth that weren’t recorded, and I believe that they are reflected in the traditions that have been handed down to us.This concept that the Church has had problems since Jesus was on earth brings up a question for me. I wonder if Jesus may have said to the Apostles something like “Look. You’re mere men. You’re going to have problems when you establish my Church. Do your best to keep it focused on God, and not men, imperialism or politics” Maybe he did warn them of the failings of a church run by men, but somehow that did NOT make it into the Gospels.
Just a thought…
Not probably, as I’ve said the same. The position I take, which I think is fairly Lutheran, is that, while these traditions may be believed if they do not contradict scripture, great care must be taken before making them more than pious beliefs, and binding the conscience of the believer to them.I am sure there were many many things that were said and done during Jesus’ ministry on earth that weren’t recorded, and I believe that they are reflected in the traditions that have been handed down to us.
(YES, I SAID THAT. now I have to wait for the Synod police to come after me )
More important, if Constantine started the CC,then I am curious why not ONE church father bothers to mention this grand new church? Who joined this church and what are their names?I used to buy into this lie at one time.
Now, I ask for proof of this assertion.
Just like I dont buy into protestantism in general becuase of Marten Luther having the title " professor" I've been at a university for a year now, and that soley had discredited any hopes I would have had for church referemations started by a " professor"
Um, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger was a “professor”.I dont’ believe it based on common sense reasoning.
My hypothesis says that, At the golden age of martredom ( if its spelled right).
That; I don’t buy into early Christians saying…" Hey this guy made it leagle, he can change all of our rules and traditions now. Awesome "
Cheers!Code:Just like I dont buy into protestantism in general becuase of Marten Luther having the title " professor" I've been at a university for a year now, and that soley had discredited any hopes I would have had for church referemations started by a " professor"
