I,am sad by the way people act in church When I,am at church I like too go early

too pray and be with Jesus too talk with my Lord.,I do this because after awhile

people come in and instead of praying they talking like it,s a place too chat, One time

I told some people, could you please be quite Iam trying too pray, and I also reminded

them that this a church and Jesus is present at the alter.

Also I,am hurt because a lot of people don,t even knee before they enter there

sit, then when they go too reseive communion they show no recepet knowing that

there about too receive Jesue.Things have change since from the 1950,s to 1970,s

when we understood the meeting of going too church, giving thank,s too Our Lord

for coming too save us and for what we got, that everything is in God,s hand,s.
May God Have Mercy on those who don,t understand

Try going to an earlier Mass. I go at 7:30 on Sunday, and I never run into this behavior.
11:00 on the other hand…

I wouldn’t have asked if it doesn’t matter.
I guess the next question would be, why does it matter? As I said before, it could just as easily happen at one as the other. What form of the Mass it happened at is irrelevant. What is relevant is that it happened and should be stopped.

OF or EF?
Why would it matter? Our abbey uses the OF but it is very reverent and in Gregorian chant. The abbey is also however, a very well known local tourist attraction due to its cheeses, cider and apples, and its splendid geographic location. So we often have trouble with tourists talking in silent areas and we oblates often need to remind folks to be quiet.

Do you honestly think if our abbey did the EF, this problem would magically disappear?

FWIW, in our merged parish, there are three churches. In two of them the church is invariably silent in the half hour before Mass, you only hear parishioners quietly shuffling into the building, and in another, in a neighboring town, it is a noisy brouhaha. All of them are OF.

In the typical Latin Rite Western parish…

If people are being irreverant in an EF I wouldn’t hesitate to speak to the priest about it. Since SP I believe people are being drawn to the EF in order to worship in a more reverant and traditional manner.

If people are being irreverant in an OF then I would hesitate before acting as it will depend on the people involved. If the priest and bishop believe Mass is a relaxed community celebration then they probably think chatter and informality is to be expected. If that’s the case then you might as well find another parish.

If the priest/pastor agrees with you but the bishop doesn’t then you may have opened up a can of worms that could end with that priest getting transfered. The parish elders (especially if they are EMHCS, Liturgical Ministers, etc) may think you are one of those intolerant schismatic traditionalists looking to drag The Church back into the Middle Ages.

However, if the pastor and bishop are following the example being set by the Pope and senior clergy then you may have an opportunity to help bring reverance back to your parish. Silence in the nave and genuflecting before the Tabernacle are reverant signs of belief in the Real Presence. Belief in the Real Presence should lead to weekly Mass attendance and hopefully regular Confession. As you worship so you believe, so you live.

Of course it wouldn’t. It’s not clear if this happens in the abbey church during Mass or the Office, or if the problem occurs in other “quiet” areas of the complex. Either way, though, the situation seems to be due to the insensitivity of tourists rather than the faithful.

As an aside, I think it would be wonderful if St-Benoit-du-Lac were to offer the Solemn EF (ad orientem, of course ;)), at least on occasion. (The very thought brings back memories of Solemn Vespers (with the abbot presiding) at Clairvaux. :)) The tourists wouldn’t know the difference, and wouldn’t care. I, OTOH, might just try to figure a way to get there and attend. 🙂

It happens everywhere. Saturday I was at the abbey with another oblate. There are toilets near the back of the church and two women were talking loudly to each other through the walls. AND there was a Mass going on (I wasn’t attending). My friend who also lives nearby and gives his time as a handyman to the abbey, told them to pipe down.

But it also happens in other quiet areas by people who are on retreat. Some folks just can’t shut up!

I’ll let you know if they take the EF some day. But they definitely do solemn Vespers on Sundays (followed by adoration) and feast days, presided by the Abbot on big occasions. In Gregorian chant.

Do you mind a PM?

OK ever one, what the problem? Don,t we understand that in a church,no matter, what

state ,we are suppose too show reverence when we are present of Jesus in the

tabernacle in church.Have we forgotten that Jesus came too save us sinners, Have we

forgotten that Jesus was nailed too the cross because Jesus love us so much that he

give his life for us.I don,t care if this is the year 2010,We musn,t forget even thought

we weren,t born yet , that Jesus did come too save us ,that either,we follow him,

buy loving others as our Lord ask or do we wish to do and act as the romans did in

killing and ruling others. It seems that the world has decide, that what count,s more

what make them happy, riches and there the one,s who kill for power. But in the end

those that don,t follow GOD<S way well suffer much,Those of us that remain

faithful too GOD well be welcome in his kingdom, this we know.As for me, I’am going

too devote my love too JESUS and not get attach too the material things, which I

can,t take too Heaven, for I came in this world and shall leave this world with, giving

myself too Jesus.:).
