Saint Christopher is one of the most popular Catholic saints. Many Catholics wear St. Christopher medals, or have St. Christopher visor clips or medallions in their automobiles, since he is the patron of travelers. And statues of this saint are found in Catholic churches.
Saint Christopher is not on the general Catholic calendar, but he he honored in local calendars, and honored of course by Catholics.
Some of the legends about Saint Christopher may or may not be true; they have deeply entered the consciousness of Catholics.

I don’t think he should have been dropped from the calendar, and his feast being on the same day as St. James the Great pretty much ensures he’ll get short shrift. I couldn’t even find a missal oration to read for him today, only the one for St. James. For a saint whose existence is disputed, he is certainly widely popular.
