Fr. Serpa,
Can you tell me what document what document made the confietor optional?

Thank you,
Angel

Dear Angel,

The document is the General Instruction of the Roman Missal. “The Introductory Rights” consists of several options. There is "A Right of Blessing and Sprinkling Holy Water. Within this are two optioins plus a version for Easter season. Then there is "B Penitential Rite. The directions in the Sacramentary are in red: “After the silence, one of the following three forms is chosen.”

On the opening page of the Sacramentary one reads: Approved for Use in the Dioceses of the United States of America by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops and Cinfirmed by the Apostolic See.

Just ask to look at the sacramentary at Church or look at one in a Church goods store. You will see it all there.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
