The Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary's Indulgences Decree

I’m recently enrolled at the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary, and I know I can get a plenary indulgence in the day I’ll br, officially enrolled (Feb 2nd).

My point is, that indulgence are not in the Enchiridion Indulgentiarum (http : // basilica . ca/documents/2016/10/Sacred%20Apostolic%20Penitentiary-The%20Enchiridion%20of%20Indulgences . pdf), so, it’s must be at some of the Apostolic Penitentiary’s Decrees.

I want a copy of that Decree, to know about the action needed to gain the Indulgence.

I’ve found some decrees confirming or revising the old indulgences, like this one (http : // catholictradition . org/Classics/secret-mary11 . htm) to the Montfortian Associates of “Mary Queen of All Hearts”.

Referring to the Confraternity of the Rosary, I’ve found this document (http : // www . op . org/sites/www . op . org/files/public/documents/fichier/infocliop3_eng . pdf) that, at page 24, concedes a plenary indulgence to the members of the Confraternity of Our Lady of the
Rosary, on condition that having observed the usual conditions … they formulate or renew, at least privately, the promise to observe faithfully, the statutes of their Association.

It is the Decree or is the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary and the Confraternity of our Lady of the Rosary different confraternities? The days that have indulgences granted are the same.

She has a pdf of the approved indulgences. It has to be in that list or found in the Vatican documents to be Pope approved

INDULGENCES IN GENERAL
An indulgence is the cancellation of temporal punishment due for sin, when the sin’s guilt has already been pardoned.
An indulgence is partial if it frees the Christian partially from the temporal punishment due for his sins, plenary if it frees him wholly.
Both partial and plenary indulgences can always be applied to the dead, but only by way of suffrage.
Since the Apostolic Constitution of Pope Paul VI on Indulgences, a partial indulgence is no longer expressed in reference to time, i.e. days or years.
A plenary indulgence can be gained only once a day, except by those on the threshold of death.
To gain a plenary indulgence the person must perform the indulgenced act, and satisfy these conditions: Sacramental Confession, Holy Communion, prayer for the Pope’s intention, and freedom from all attachment to sin, even venial sin. If this detachment is not present, or if any of the above conditions are not fulfilled, the indulgence is partial.

ROSARY INDULGENCES
For members of the Rosary Confraternity, a plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, is granted:
on the day of enrollment. (When application is made, a certificate of membership is sent, indicating the day of the enrollment.)
on the following feast days: Christmas, Easter, Annunciation, Purification, Assumption, Our Lady of the Rosary, and Immaculate Conception.
For those who pray the Rosary, a plenary indulgence is granted under the usual conditions, when the Rosary is prayed in Church, or in a Public Oratory, in a family (family Rosary), Religious Community, or Pious Association. Otherwise a partial indulgence is granted.

The confraternity you are joining is a part of the Dominicans.
 
I have been in the confraternity for 35 years, and have met several of the Dominican brothers and priests who have run it here in Australia.

I trust 100% that they are doing everything within proper ecclesiastical law. If the indulgences are not in the Enchiridion then I’m not concerned.

The proper title is The Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary. This is their US website. I doubt whether they have a central website. In my experience the confraternity is run locally by a Dominican member who takes over the current membership and fits it in with other duties. They don’t have the resources for a central organisation or web presence. – See correction below –

I strongly suspect that the “Confraternity of our Lady of the Rosary” is just a corruption of this title. If you can find a link to this “Confraternity” as a separate organisation than you can prove me wrong.

Re the indulgences which are gained on specific days (Christmas, Assumption, etc.). I’ve never seen a statement of how to obtain the indulgence. My understanding is that this indulgence is a very great privilege of the Confraternity, such that on each of the days one can obtain the indulgence simply by invoking it and performing the normal requirements (Mass, confession, state of grace, prayer for the Holy Father).

The ultimate headquarters of the Rosary Confraternity is at the Dominican Generalate in Rome, at Santa Sabina. Normally, one would work with friars at a lower level, in one’s own country or in the province of the friars in which one lives…even in Rome, you would refer first to the Roman province at Santa Maria Sopra Minerva.

I have no doubt about the integrity of the Confraternity. I believe that indulgences are really valid, but the Rosary-Center does not list actions, only the days on which indulgences are granted (which is not very usual).

That is why I would like to read the Decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary, and see the details, to make sure I did the right action to earn the indulgence.

There is nothing personal against the Confraternity in particular. In the Vatican website (vatican va / roman_curia / tribunals / apost_penit / index.htm), there are some decrees, but they are few (only between 2002 and 2014).

Copying of the decrees on the website of the Apostolic Penitentiary (penitenzieria va / content / penitenzieriaapostolica.html) is not very easy either, although there is already the Latin version of the Indulgences related to Saint Aloysius de Gonzaga.

I only hope that someone here will be able to have access to such a decree (or to make sure that the two confraternities mentioned are, in fact, the same).

Thanks for explaining all that! Welcome to our Confraternity, and I hope it brings you many blessings.

As I mentioned in my first post, I think the ability to gain a plenary indulgence on one of several days during the year (Marian days) is a measure of the high esteem of this confraternity, that the indulgence can be gained as easily as you described (ie. be practising or renew one’s membership of the community, plus the usual conditions). As I also mentioned, I’ve never been able to get a clear statement on this.

I won’t bother Don Ruggero again directly, but if he sees this might like to answer it.

I’ve followed Don Ruggero’s link and not seen a statement on this.

However, you might like to follow Don’s advice and contact the rosary coordinator in your own country or Dominican province. In my experience these friars are, however, not web savvy, are busy with many duties, and are difficult to find and contact. It may take some persistence via the web, and also through the Dominican order in your own province. Did an OP friar enrol you in the confraternity? As I recall any priest can, so it may not necessarily have been an OP.

For myself, I’m quite content with my own explanation above, and have practiced it for years.

I’ll consider your advice and try to find some friar nearby.

The most I search, the most I’m convinced that the two orders are the same and that the letter I found from the Penitentiary is enough to explain the indulgences.
