Regarding mediums and psychics:

The official Catechism of the Catholic Church is very clear about the position of the Church concerning mediums, psychics etc:

2115 God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it. Improvidence, however, can constitute a lack of responsibility.

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

Fr. Patrick (not his real name) is a parish priest and an exorcist. The owner of the web site above consulted him about the issue with exorcists using the aid of people who can discern and hear demons. This was his response:

The point that needs to be made is that the church teaching on divination and psychics is about summoning spirits and using spirits, contacting spirits and communicating with them and treating them like a God to get answers. This is what against the teachings of the Church. Mysticism and or discernment of the spirits is a gift of the Holy Spirit to discern the spirits - good and evil. At no time does anyone communicate with the Spirits. It is always God’s battle, not ours. We do not summon spirits nor communicate with them, but in prayer the Holy Spirit blesses with the gift of knowing what is there. Exorcists do no dialog or have parties with demons, but command with the authority of the Jesus Christ.

Thank you for posting this. It makes complete sense to me and this is what I have always believed about the church using the help of lay people in these matters.

Sweetheart, you have no idea about the things that keep me up at night for good reason.
It is not civil discourse to call anyone Sweetheart on a forum.
It is condecending and insulting.

I agree I have no idea about the things that keep you up at night.

I agree there must be a good reason.

Rolling eyes are also insulting, and used in a derogatory way.
