Who said spirits can have no influence over us? If we allow them to do so they may have significant influence. Isn’t this obvious? We are constantly bombarded by good and evil. We must choose to follow one or the other. By our choices we determine who has influence. However, we are initially free to make that choice. Let me quote Joseph Smith again but I will give the next sentence, "All beings who have bodies have power over those who have not. The devil has no power over us only as we permit him; the moment we revolt at anything which comes from God, the devil takes power.” The reverse may also be said of the influence of the Lord. As we follow the spirit will be guided in paths of truth.I’m sorry but this is no clarification at all.
According to Joseph Smith, beings with bodies have power over the Holy Ghost, because by definition the Holy Ghost has no body.
The Holy Ghost can’t possibly have any special influence over our spirit because the Holy Ghost has no body.![]()
Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy. And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because that they are redeemed from the fall they have become free forever, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save it be by the punishment of the law at the great and last day, according to the commandments which God hath given. Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.
