The Creed at Christmas Day Mass

Oh, I guess I’m used to that in many modern churches. Matter of fact there was a move afoot to remove them from our own church but a vote on the proposal defeated it.

Even with no kneelers you can still kneel at the appropriate times, just kneel on the floor. That’s what they do in the old European churches without pews or kneelers.
 
It happened perfectly at the Christmas Eve mass. The creed was paused for a moment, and everyone genuflected.

On the Christmas day mass, our Father reminded everyone to do so, but I think the older people there must have not heard him :p. So some people were reciting the creed as half of us genuflected. It was a little awkward to say the least.

I always bow at that part.

Where I went to Mass this morning, not my home parish but my same pastor, there were a whole 2 people kneeling during the phrase “by the power of the Holy Spirit, was born of the Virgin Mary and became man”, Father and me.

I was just wondering how many know they were supposed to kneel.

My gf and I went to Mass and we knelt.

In fact, the whole congregation did. The Priest reminded us at the beginning of Mass. 😃
 
I dunno gang, I just dropped to one knee at the right part and rose when the Words of the Incarnation concluded. Pausing the Creed seems like overkill, especially just for me. 😃
 
I put down our kneeler as the Creed began, and my wife and I knelt. I didn’t notice anybody else doing it… I don’t typically see people making a profound bow either. Our pastor bowed. 🤷

GIRM 137 in Latin says genua flectunt – literally “they bend the knees” – so the typical word “genuflect” is probably misleading here; it’s not a single knee genuflection like one would make before the tabernacle, but actually kneeling (standing on one’s knees) briefly. At least, that’s my interpretation of the GIRM. If I’m mistaken, I’ll gladly accept correction.
 
The notation in Today’s Missal was as follows:

(Bow) by the power of the Holy Spirit, he was born of the Virgin Mary and became man
(genuflect on Christmas and on the Annunciation of the Lord)

Some day maybe you will learn why some older people don’t genuflect or are slower at doing so. 😛 It is not always because they can’t hear.

I went to my first Latin Mass on Christmas. The Creed had come and gone before I even knew what had happened. 😊

No no I understood, I was just making a poor attempt at humor.

However, there were a lot of confused people who must not have listened to the priest.
 
:nope: We paused at the appropriate spot, but didn’t kneel. :confused: I was a bit surprised because I remember last year this priest knelt and he always bows. Unfortunately most of the congregation seems to miss out on the bowing as there are only a scattering of people who do. 😦
 
Our parish knelt. There was not a pause during the Creed, but rather we all knelt at the time where we normally all bow.
