We did not recite the Creed during Mass today? Is this a problem or is a seasonal thing?

That happened at mass in our parish once too - the priest (visiting) simply forgot. When he did remember, very shortly after it should have been said, he said we’re all here because we believe so it’s a given (I’m paraphrasing here). Which is true, really. I don’t think it’s a problem though. Did you ask your priest after mass why it was left out?

The purpose of the Creed or Profession of Faith is that the whole gathered people may respond to the Word of God proclaimed in the readings taken from Sacred Scripture and explained in the Homily and that they may also honor and confess the great mysteries of the faith by pronouncing the rule of faith in a formula approved for liturgical use and before the celebration of these mysteries in the Eucharist begins.

  1. The Creed is to be sung or said by the Priest together with the people on Sundays and Solemnities. It may be said also at particular celebrations of a more solemn character.

If it is sung, it is intoned by the Priest or, if appropriate, by a cantor or by the choir. It is then sung either by everybody together or by the people alternating with the choir.

In many Masses, the Nicene Creed follows the homily. The Nicene Creed is a statement of faith dating from the fourth century. In certain instances, the Nicene Creed may be replaced by the Apostles’ Creed (the ancient baptismal creed of the Church in Rome) or by a renewal of baptismal promises, based on the Apostles’ Creed.

The Apostles Creed, yes. The Nicene Creed, no, but they still replace it when there is a baptism. In Canada we recite the Apostles Creed as the norm, and the Nicene Creed on certain solemnities.
 
Usually at our parish when there’s a baptism then the renewal of baptismal vows suffices for the recitation of the Creed.

That’s because that’s how the Rite is designed. You go from the Homily to the Intercessions to the Litany of the Saints, skipping the Creed.

that is, it is not recited a second time.

The creed, which has various forms, has been stated I. The Baptismal Rites. Repeating later would be redundant, and form over substance.

(of course, you westerners tend to have a Filioque in all your creeds, but . . .🙂 )
