The Crusades, the Inquisition, and Native Americans

I’m having a discussion on another forum about the Popes recent statements about Islam, which I am sure all of you are aware of. One of the users though keeps bringing up that it’s “the pot calling the kettle black”. The user keeps stating that just look at the Crusades, the Inquisition (I’m not sure which one he means, am assuming Spanish though), and the Church’s treatment of Native Americans. I was wondering if anyone here had any references towards material on this. For one, I thought at least two Popes had come out to say the Native Americans needed to be treated as people (Pope Paul III?). But yes, I just wanted to know if anyone had any good information on these three things. I have already read the CA tract on the Inquisition.
 
I highly recommend you read “Triumph” by Harry Crocker. This book exposes the myths and truths about the Inquistion and Crusades. Plus it’s a great read. Much of what you hear about these two topics is horribly misrepresented, if not completely false.
 
Yes, imagine someone a thousand years from now reading a book on American-Arab relations in the early twenty-first century that never mentions September 11, 2001. That is what you get in a lot of books about the Crusades.
