Here’s a question I’ve been thinking about. If the Pope called for the Crusades again, would you join?

Please be gentle.

I collect firearms, gunsmith, practice rain and I am a vet who still both follows and studies politics and the military. Not only would I join, but I am highly capable of training, arming, and leading a large group.

Learning to give up violence, learning to turn the other cheek was one of the hardest lessons for me to learn in my reversion. I have done so, but in my mind the caveat had always been that if his holiness ever calls I will be ready. I have learned to pray that he will never feel the need to call me.

I am peaceful, I am loving, I do my very best to obey the ccc and listen to the magesterium on all levels. I realize no matter how I say the above I have probably offended someone, I am sorry if you take offense but I cannot be sorry that there are probably many men out there just like me. Soldiers are a needed entity at times, and I pray that those who I offended will never be glad to know that folks like me exist.

Now back to lurking, Thanks.

sign me up where are we going, I will lead the children’s crusade, we can militate against our biggest terrorist threat, the media saturating our homes with filth, immorality, perversion and violence.

seriously folks, the first crusade was called to liberate the Holy Land, which is doing just fine, thank you very much under the Israelis. Hope it will someday be unified, with full civil and political rights for all religious and ethnic groups, and I think their army does not need help from Christian crusaders.

I’m in! … whats taking so long? Put me in Fatherofthree’s platoon.

The first Crusades were a blunder, so why would we think a modern day crusade would turn out any better?

No, I would not go and I would question the spirituality of a Pope who would call for such a thing.

Even though I’m not Catholic, I’m going to pretend I am for just a moment, since my answer would be no automatically be no since I am not Catholic.

I would definately not join. I am not going to kill people for land or for their beliefs. I do not see the point in breaking out in war just for land, the ‘Holy’ land. All land is holy in a way. God made it all. We should learn to appreciate what we have, and not kill for more power. If the pope did declare war, I’d turn away from Catholicism and go to a more peaceable religion.
IMO, I think you might as well be a terrorist if you willingly fight in the Crusades. Not saying that people who want to are horrible people, but it just would be so…outright wrong.

the first crusade was not a blunder, and did indeed liberate Jerusalem and part of the Holy Land from Muslim control and maintained a stable kingdom there for over 150 years. later crusades ranged from unsuccessful to disaster to scandal for all Christendom with effects lasting into the next millenium.

If a chubby out of shape woman could be useful- I’d sign up.🙂

I would go and use the rosary as my weapon, and the Bible…I will consume the world with fire…Fire of the Holy Spirit…

If the Pope called, I would arm myself and hop on the first flight to Rome. Absolutely I would join.

…actually if I did that in that particular order, I probably wouldn’t get past security…but you get the point.

If the Holy Father thinks that there is sufficient cause for a Crusade I will be there.

My heart aches with this thread… those who are so ready to kill, why not reach out in love first?

If the bloody Turks agree to vacate Antioch and Constantinople, I’ll consider it. Otherwise, I sharpen my pike!!!

Well, what would be the guarantee that the Crusade would not cause more harm than good? I think it would be against the recent papal declarations asking for no more war. And it might bring up bad memories concerning what happened during the Fourth Crusade. So I think a war type Crusade would be a bad idea. A better idea is a peaceful Crusade. So, no I would not join a Crusade for war, but yes, I would join a peaceful Crusade that would peacefully spread the message of Christian love, good will and peace for mankind.

So why haven’t you joined a peaceful crusade yet? Pro-life demonstrations by your nearest abortion clinic? Media crusade against liberal stands re: moral issues (gay marriage, no-fault divorce, ban against conscience-objections to dispensing birth control, etc.) and social issues (better care for homeless children and insured, etc.)…?

A crusade for and against what?

To forcibly retake the Holy Land?

No thanks, not practical and would be an exercise of heartache, misery, and futility.

In our day and age a Crusades the likes of the previous ones wouldn’t work.

What we need is a rebirth of the military orders. To protect and defend the Church. Kind of like a larger corps of the Swiss Guard. A force whose sole purpose is for the physical defense of the Church and her assets. To establish order and provide humanitarian aid, like the U.N. but actually effective.
Force protection for the clergy, religious, and those that are in harm’s way.

Hey, why not? Not everyone can be a Swiss Guard. After my enlistment in the Marine Corps I wanted to join the Swiss Guard, only problem was I wasn’t Swiss, I was too old and not tall enough.

Yeah that’s right I’m bitter…
😃

Such a thing wouldn’t happen though, because of political and monetary reasons.
…and yes I know about the Fraternty of Saint Sebastian. They don’t count.

I would join if it was a crusade againist poverty, injustice, and inequality. Oh wait that was called in 1891, Im sorry I forgot. What if is was a crusade to put catholic teaching into action, for instance socail justice. but then again im young and an idealist, however you want to try to dismiss said comment go ahead.

Were do I sign?

You’re gonna need someone to cook.

I’m your girl.
