Madden is great. I know that you are looking for online resources. But if you’re willing to go with good old fashioned technology, the book Concise History of the Crusades is a quick and good introduction, a real easy and entertaining read, and starts with insight into the mind of those at the time and encourages you to not look at it only through the modern lens. I looked and see that now there is the NEW Concise History of the Crusades by Madden. I have the old one so I can’t vouch for the new one, but I imagine it’s at least as good.

I think the episode this week will be:
Episode 10 - The Teutonic Knights and the Baltic Crusade
Like the Hospitallers, the Teutonic Order was formed to establish hospitals and aid pilgrims in the Holy Land. James and Joanna Bogle relate how the Order later transferred its efforts to Poland and Prussia. But with the conversion to Lutheranism of the Prussian leaders, the order was secularized by the government, leading to is disbandment.
