The CTS New Catholic Bible

Wow there is someone else! I too own this bible. Just bought it a few months ago.
I am somewhat of a translation junkie so I cant help myself.

I have not taken enough time to read through that much of it but so far I like it. I really like the NJB but thought it would be nice to have the psalms in the CTS and the use of Lord which will be less distracting I think.
I love LOVE the bible layout and construction though. What a wonderful bible physically at least but will have to have a little more time with the translation to know about the rest.

What are your thoughts so far?

PS I have that presentation edition not the compact though. Just noticed you linked the compact version.

I like the CTS version, I love the layout of it I just wonder though why Psalm 23 (the Lord is my sheperd) is Psalm 22 in this version.
 
I believe it used the old numbering for Psalms like the Douay does.
 
It is a good Bible. It uses the Jerusalem Bible text, but replaces God’s name with LORD as per the directions of His Holiness The Pope.

It is aimed at new Catholics, and is very, very good.
 
I also own this bible. I should have gotten the Presentation edition. I find the print small and the footnotes even smaller. But I also like the bible. My favorite is the JB. I thought it was word for word copy of the JB but it is not. It differs slightly. I guess I am just too used to the JB.
 
I love it and use it regularly. Being from England it’s great to have a Bible that matches our lectionary word-for-word.

That being said, I think the lectionary is due to change from ‘Jerusalem-with-Grail-Psalms’ to a ‘modified’ NRSV eventually.

Shame. 😦

Anyhow this is a great bible for everyday use. The notes aren’t too good in places, but for such a low price it’s well made and well presented, so beggars can’t be choosers!
 
I am not familiar with this Bible - is it a new/different translation?
 
It’s the original 1966 Jerusalem Bible, so no inclusive language.

The Psalms however are the Grail translation, not Jerusalem.

One difference throughout the text from the 1966 Jerusalem is that ‘Yahweh’ has been altered to ‘Lord’.

This version of the texts matches the English & Welsh lectionary. The purpose of the Bible was so English Catholics could have a bible that matched what they hear at Mass.

It would be nice if we had a Bible that did that for the readings in the lectionary for the United States.
